I live in California, but I originally grew up in Cambridge. I remember when Tony first talked about opening a restaurant. When I come home to visit, I make sure to get delicious soul food from The Coast Cafe. My choice meal is the fried chicken wings, with Mac and cheese, greens, and I add on yams. I love the patties and cornbread also. My last trip was Sept. 24, 2021, prior to that, I went in 2015. At this point, I'm going to have to convince Tony to Fed Ex me a catered order in containers, because my greedy spirit misses this great tasting food! I recommended this restaurant to all my Cali friends who have children attending college in Boston or Cambridge, and they loved it too!

We spent $83 on our meal (Uber eats) and I would say we were fairly dissatisfied. I had high hopes for this restaurant given all of the wonderful reviews they had.I was expecting juicy, crispy, lightly battered fried chicken only to get hard, dry, stale chicken. Perhaps they were having an off day but it was just such a let down.The ribs were good but they were tough to eat.We both got the fried chicken and ribs platter with 2 sides and the beef and cheese patty (which was very good!)The only reason I might try again is because their flavor/seasoning is great.
Best cornbread muffin I 've ever had and the chicken was SO crispy and flavorful. FRIED CHICKEN: Deliciously fried and packed with so much flavor and juice. Even the chicken breast is tender and not dry at all. Eat immediately! SIDES: Mac 'n Cheese, candied yams, collard greens, cornbread muffin were all delicious! I cannot recommend them enough. The cornbread muffin was probably the best I 've had moist and not dry. I 've ordered previously through Ubereats before and waited for 2 hours still worth it.
The j wings were cold. I repeat COLD, like they came out of a fridge and they were hard as if old (you can tell by how shriveled the chicken is even in the pic). Mac n cheese was bland. Rice beans ok. Catfish ok. Only the collard greens were good. Chicken very dry idk how so many people like it. My husband and I both weren’t pleased with the portions either. Overall just not very good.
I got the fried catfish plate with yams and Mac and cheese. I love soul food, but this was so disappointing. Everything tasted old and microwaved. The Mac and cheese was dry and the fried catfish was soft and nothing tasted freshly made. Everything was at least seasoned and the cornbread was good but those are the only positives. Food: 1

This place is the best! When I had a snafu trying to bring food home to some friends and dropped the food, Tony, the owner, was SO kind and stayed open a few minutes after they closed to cook me up some more food for free. He and the whole staff were incredibly kind about it and the food was DELICIOUS! Everyone needs to try this place.
We ordered a tray of fried wings from Coast Cafe for a party and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Wonderful food and equally great service. Thank you to the team for making our gathering so special!
