Was in the area and this place was recommended to me, so after checking out the reviews went there for lunch. Got there early, soon after opening to make sure no problem getting a table, as it's popular and was a way for me to go to visit. Upon entering was greeted and taken to a table, very friendly staff. Nicely laid out location with tables not too close together, but close enough so it is quick and easy for them to be changed around for different size groups. We visited the North East for the first time in 4 years, and the first thing we did was drive straight to Colmans for Fish Chips! My family have been looking forward to visiting Colmans ever since our last pre-Covid visit. My late father introduced me to Colmans many years ago, and now no visit to the North East is complete without a visit to Colmans Fish Chips. I ordered ‘The Colmans feast’ and it was delicious! It is the best fish and chips I have ever had! Maria recommended the homemade tartar sauce which paired perfectly with the fish! I would recommend anyone visiting Shield’s to come here. The service was excellent and the food was top-notch!
Called today for lunch we both had the cod and chips and have to say they were delicious The place was clean and staff were friendly and not to bad price Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back when over that way

Best fish and chips we have ever had, so glad we visited. Portion sizes were huge. You can see and taste the freshness of the fish and chips. Crisp batter and fluffy chips. Can't wait to go back.
