We visited this restaurant on a Sunday. It wasn't too busy, so we were seated right away and able to find a table easily. Unfortunately, our experience went downhill from there. I ordered tea, but was served coffee instead. The woman at the register made it seem like it was my mistake and even asked if I had a receipt. I explained that I didn't have one because I used contactless payment. I showed her my bank app, but she just swapped my drink without much acknowledgment. The tea pot was very stained, especially from the dark tea. The "milk jug" actually came in a small mug, making it difficult to pour without spilling. We just visited Costa in Rayleigh and what a mistake, the customer service from one member of staff was terrible.. I ordered our drinks asking for my husband tea to have the milk on the side, and yes you’ve guested it the member of staff just poured the milk in even though I was saying stop stop.. by that time the tea was all milk and no tea, he then just put the lid on and walked away. I was in shock as I had waited ages to be served paid for my drinks then to be served exactly what I didn’t want !!! Fortunately the young girl there offered to replace the tea… I feel if your not willing or feel you can be pleasant to paying customers then don’t do the job, as we certainly won’t visit this C...
I wish they would employ a few more staff here at this very busy Costas ! They have 2 coffee machines but seem to only have enough staff to use 1 and the staff bless them) are always up against it ,they all look so stressed all of the time..I wouldn't wanna work for minimum wage everyday under those conditions! I think they all do a great job under the circumstances especially the person actually making the coffees and I know buisnesses are under a lot of financial pressure at the moment but Costas have a big profit margin and if customer satisfaction is being compromised than management need to sort it out !
My mom really enjoys her coffee, so we decided to stop by Costa to get her a drink. However, it was not a quick visit as we had to wait in line for 29 minutes! The staff were quite slow and seemed more interested in chatting with each other than serving customers promptly. Unfortunately, the slow service did not improve the taste of the coffee. To make matters worse, my mom's cappuccino was spilled into her saucer and the staff member did not even bother to wipe it up. Additionally, she mentioned that her drink was only lukewarm. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this Costa location in the future.

Popped in for a coffee this morning. Whilst waiting for my order a customer returned his drink as he had been given just a cup of hot milk and nothing else. I waited an age to be served hence my average rating above. There were tables that needed clearing and there were three members of staff behind the counter. I usually go to this one when in Rayleigh but I also visit the one in Hockley which is far better both by way of cleanliness and the attitude of the staff. Also there are more cakes to choose from at the Hockley Costa.
Every costa I go to the staff are under trained and don’t really care what the customer orders. Asked for my mocha not to hot, received a very hot cup. Meaning the so called barista’s are burning the milk! I know because I had my own coffee shop and went for **** training. If costa can’t monitor the people that work for them maybe it’s best they shut shop and stick to the self serving machines as they are doing a better job then humans!
Clean up needed! I've been here for an hour and the coffee is great, but the restaurant looks really messy. None of the staff are clearing away used trays, glasses, or cups. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to do. Customers are having to pile them up themselves just to find a place to sit.
The drinks are so good and if you wanted none of the stuff you do not want they will remove it and the quality is really god it one of my favourite places to get a drink

This place is dirty. All surfaces are grubby and the tables as well. The staff are rude beyond belief and you are made to feel like you are an inconvenience.
Not everyone is welcome in Costa so spend your money elsewhere. There are lovely family run coffee shops in Rayleigh that would be grateful for your custom.
