As a voracious fan of Japanese cuisine, I keep my pulse on new arriving Japanese joints in the city and my local area. Crane bar had been on my radar for a while so when some of my friends decided to have a combined birthday party here, I was rubbing my hands and couldn't wait to check it out. Arriving here on a Saturday night around 8pm, I spotted my friends in the crowd quickly. The area we reserved was in the centre of the venue. No sign of sit down dining tables but only a few lounges and stools sporadically spread across the floor, half of the guests were standing. No tables naturally means no table service, we had to make multiple trips to the bar and order f...

My partner and I were given a $200 red balloon voucher as a gift which we thought was a great idea and a really good way to experience something we would not normally do. We chose Crane Bar after reading the many positive reviews, our love of food and our hospitality background. the experience offered an 8 course degustation with cocktail each for $178.Within 10 minutes of sitting down we had 3 courses on the table ,the first being bland salmon on fried lotus root chips which were soft which lead us to think the dish along with others which were cold has been made well in advance as the chefs knew we were coming for the tasting menu. Within 10 minutes of sitting down and having...

Saturday night was my first experience dining at Crane. My colleagues chose it for our team dinner as our office is just down the street. I've heard great things and was really excited for the night, unfortunately my experience left me disappointed. When we arrived at approx 8:15PM the host couldn't seem to find our table even though we had a reservation, and didn't seem to have any idea what was happening so walked us all over the place. We finally found our table, ordered some drinks, on serving one of the cocktail waitresses spilled 3 cocktails all over me, I was soaked & they stained my dress. I've worked in hospitality for over 8 yrs & understand accidents happen, however it was... Book a table now
Nice lounge space at the back for a casual lunch. Yummy gyoza, edamame and spider roll. Would have preferred less batter on the tender salt and pepper squid. Dynamite tofu pretty yummy with spicy sauce. On Sunday's they have a $40pp chef's banquet from 1 pm which is a pretty good deal considering they'll keep serving it until you're full. simonfoodfavourites.blogspot.com
Crane bar is a pretty cool looking spot close to Kings Cross station. They do $1 dumplings on Wednesday. They also hold a dumpling competition which I was lucky enough to see one of my mates break the record. I'd probably only come on Wednesdays for that deal - the dumplings are OK but nothing special. Otherwise the staff are friendly and there's a chilled out vibe. eatventures.net
Went in for the dumpling challenge on $1 dumpling night. Unfortunately too busy eating to get photos. Dumplings were average - prawn schumai probably least favorite. Service was friendly though.
Ok but not anything special. The sushimi was good, but most of the other dishes were just ok. It was pricy for what we had. The service was also a little bit confused at times. Book a table now
Ok, but not something special. The Sushimi was good, but most other dishes were just fine. It was expensive for what we had. The service was sometimes a bit confused.
Awesome selection of cocktails - the 'pineapple express' is one of the best I've had! Meal sizes are great for sharing with a group of people.
