Went here for Sunday lunch, nice surroundings but the food was very disappointing! We had a 3 course meal. The starters were ok but we had to ask for bread despite all other customers being brought bread before their starter arrived . Our main course was roast pork with crackling, except there was no crackling, a waitress came and asked us halfway through the meal if everything was ok and I asked where the crackling was…. She then brought out a small bowl containing 4 pieces of pork crackling that was not from the pork but a packet sold behind the bar! Our first visit will certainly not be our last. For our Ruby Wedding Anniversary we wanted to get everything right and are so glad we chose the Potager. From drinks before the meal in the comfortable yet smart bar, through to the beautiful desserts everything was perfect. The presentation of the food shows imagination and artistic flair while the quality of the food is superb, all cooked to absolute perfection. I have never before had a sirloin steak as tender as fillet! The service is impeccable and the staff extremely professional and attentive without being too ‘fussy’. All in all a happy and memorable evening which we will recall on future visits. This place will always be special to us....
My husband and I booked at the Potager for an Anniversary Celebration but after a pleasant start to our evening, we came away at the end disappointed. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance and the staff are excellent, friendly and efficient. Having retired from Catering quite a few years ago Restauranteurs, Chefs and Publican) we understand how hard it is to keep a balance between traditional dishes and new ideas, where menus are concerned. It was the menu that we found disappointing. It seems to try too hard and adds trendy items, at random, to dishes that do not need or do not go with them. Fantastic evening with friends. We booked for one of their seafood and sundowners evenings. Two of our party enjoyed the seafood platters and two ate from the Á là carts menu. There were lovely half price cocktails from 5-7 and the wine list was very reasonable. We moved from the garden where we enjoyed our cocktails and music into the main restaurant to eat. The decor is lovely really upmarket without being overly stiff. The service was great the seafood platters were such a good selection and really reasonable at £16 each. Went for an afternoon tea, without doubt the service and venue were fabulous. The young lady looking after us was lovely. However we were the only ones in the restaurant and afternoon teas are pre booked but you could tell the food had been plated much earlier in the day. The sandwiches had started to dry out and we only had three small finger sandwich’s each. There were a few cakes however again these were not freshly made. The frostings had dried out and came easily apart from cake. The scones were warmed but again not freshly made. Such a shame as such a lovely view and venue. Definitely was not worth the price we paid and could not possibly recommend the afternoon tea.
We have been to Potagers many times and it is one of our favourite restaurants, the service and the staff are always superb, very friendly and very helpful, but the Sunday roast seems to be variable. One week it is superb the next it is mediocre, this week the meat was very good, but the vegetables and roast potatoes were awful. The vegetables mainly consisted of Kale and red cabbage, and some creamy sauce which also seemed to be Kale, we never figured out quite what it was. We still think this is one of the best places for a Sunday roast and will look forward to our next visit, but please no Kale.
Lovely restaurant! We were a table of four that walked in for sunday roast. We were visiting the city as my brother might go here and we found this gem! The service and attention we received was superb! The roast beef was fantastic and probably one of the best ive had before! Would definitely come back!
Excellent ambience, very good service, but the limited menu was disappointing considering the high prices being charged. We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel but the menu wasn’t changed so the limited choice was a problem for us.

Superb food , lovely decor that is smart yet cosy , service was excellent. For this quality the prices are very reasonable not much more than many a pub these days yet a far more superior experience.
