Back in undergrad, I would often go to a Hong Kong cafe called Shooting Star Cafe in Oakland, and that place always hits home. My usual order was either baked pork chop rice or baked seafood rice, and since moving down to OC, I haven 't found a place that actually serves the dish, until now The sole reason that I (plus my friends whom I lovingly dragged with me) came to this place was because of the fact they had baked seafood rice. In short, everything we ordered (pictured below) was delicious and hits the notes just right for a Cantonese/Hong Kong cafe. In particular, I would like to highlight the following things as my favorite parts of the meal. 1) HK Style Lemon Tea (not pictured becaus...

Great breakfast special in terms of value! My mother chose this place for mother's day breakfast and at 10:30 in the morning there were several parties waiting outside to be seated. After a little wait, our table was ready and the breakfast menu was short and sweet, which made it easier to make a selection. On one side were the combo specials, the traditional congee options or the HK western style spam/eggs/toast options. Each entree was roughly $10-$11 and included not just the entree but also a side dish option (eg pineapple bun, chow mein, rice roll, etc) as well as coffee/tea/milk tea. The backside had an assortment of Chinese and HK western style appetizers/small dishes as well as noodl...
We regularly visit this restaurant and stick to the popular dishes because they're always fresh. I typically steer clear of the less popular items, as they take longer to prepare and may have been sitting for a while. With such an extensive menu, we prefer to order our favorites: fried rice, roasted noodles, roasted vermicelli noodles, wonton noodles, and more. True to its name, the food is delicious. The service is consistently quick, and the portion sizes are larger than those at most places, so we usually have enough left over to take home. If you're looking for fast service at a reasonable price, this is the perfect spot.
The food here is delicious, especially when the restaurant is not too busy. However, during peak hours, the quality seems to decline; even simple dishes like eggs can end up overcooked. The service tends to be slow and limited as well. They offer a Hong Kong-style breakfast set menu, which is nice. It’s worth noting that this place used to be cash only, but they now accept credit cards. That said, the menu prices are relatively high for a Hong Kong-style café. On a positive note, the milk tea is tasty and not watered down. Book a table now
I am a fan of fried rice and they have amazing and varied fried rice dishes ? The sea food rice (there's 2) absolutely delicious, the rice is soft and flavourful. You taste the rice itself and then the ingredients. Try them all, you won't be disappointed ! Noodles with sea food are very tasty. I enjoyed them, I wish the noodles weren't so dry. I know that's probably how the dish is served but I would have enjoyed it with more sauce. Good amount of seafood though ?
Enjoyable Hong Kong style Chinese food, but very average! We liked the minced pork and fried egg rice. The seasoning was really good, but nothing innovative. The noodles were incredibly salty and peppery. The other items on the menu were very standard. Overall, the food was decent and simple. I would revisit if I'm too lazy to make these dishes at home.
This place is very loud, the breakfast eggs are always cooked and greasy, the service is minimal and the servers never smiled. I often come here to get the nostalgic mood I remembered in HK. I come without expectation and always went out with a good surprise. Overall, Rowland is my favorite.
The restaurant offers a fantastic variety of affordable dishes. I visit twice a week to explore new flavors. My favorites include the Singapore noodles, seafood fried rice, pig dog, and HK-style dishes. However, the fried eggs are often inconsistent, either overcooked or underdone. Book a table now
moth egg found in broccoli in German Pork Knuckle. Previous ordered Hainan Chicken w/ rice and chicken came with a strong smell that indicates meat goes bad. Serious food safety issues. Would not come to this place ever.
