Despana is a well furnished, cute little restaurant along Glebe Point rd. serving Spanish food. I had noticed them a while back and have been very eager to try out their food. So we arrived on a Friday night to a pretty full restaurant and were promptly seated on one of the few remaining tables. We ordered some tapas and a paella to share. We tried 2 of the skewers, a chicken with paprika and romesco sauce and a lamb with a chickpea puree. For $8 and $9, respectively, we were expecting something more than what we received. A few chunks of tasteless meat on a stick. The sauces were nice, but that was about it. The patatas bravas were more like a bowl of deep fried potato chunks with 2 s...

Saturday evening catch up with a friend that was long over due. We decided to give this tapas bar a test run. Having walked past it many times and thinking... have to check out this place, and finally last night was the night. The place is lovely with interesting decor. Like wine bottle light fittings and a tin rainbow chow that greets the front door. There were a few out door seating, but we didn't want to run the risk of being eaten alive. So anyhow, if you come here with 4 people, you could sample their banquet they have on offer. Unfortunately, we were only a part of 3 so we just ordered off of the menu. The food is reasonably priced and portion sizes are standard but don't be fooled by...

In Glebe, I always work the past in recognition because the owner has created a great place with a tempting menu. My two experiences that eat here, however, were a little underwater. My first visit was for dinner, and while it was not bad, there was no real statement. My group ordered a selection of tapas, a few was especially nice, but overall we felt as if we had to order more than expected, as the dishes were not as filling when we hoped. As a result, a relatively expensive food was, but this seems to be the trend in Tapas places in Australia in contrast to Spain. They had a great ice tea tea that I wish I could be ordered from the pitcher. We ordered another selection of tapas that pola... Book a table now
Unfortunately underwhelmed. Had high hopes for a good local tapas joint, but sadly it was not to be. Points for trying, but the service was not up to scratch, very difficult to get the attention of any waitstaff for anything. Although that said, the food arrived quite quickly, so the kitchen at least are doing something right. The mushroom and asparagus tapas where quite nice, as were the Spanish goats cheese and lavosh, which we combined with the pork and fennel charcuterie. The Spanish red wine was also very nice. The misses for me though (and these are showstoppers) were the mini chorizo and the paella. Both our meat mains, and really were expected to be the highlights. Paella was bland a...
I ate here with a group of 11, the set menu plus a couple of extras. As it turned out, the set menu would have been more than enough - generous helpings and delicious. I am a longtime patatas bravas lover and these were easily the best I've had in Sydney. Crispy crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle and topped off with a moreish spicy sauce. The beetroot and feta dip was also amazing as were the chicken skewers. I will definitely be coming back here!
The tapas were really good. Every chicken liver parfait and Sangria enjoyed. The service was a bit slow, but expected for a Friday night. Do not recommend your paella - the rice was too moist and not so scented. Seashells and shells in the Paella were extremely salty. Overall, I would go back, but not for Paella.

We were welcomed by the cute rainbow bull at the front. The food was also great. Paella was delicious, as were the cheeses, and the small dishes we had. I love cheese so cheese boards always score highly with me!
