It was after noon by now, so when we saw this store with strangelooking confectioneries, we decided to try it out. The store was called Diller Schneeballenträume, and apparently they make a local confection called a schneeballen or snowball. You could watch them make them...in the front window of the place. Dough was flattened out pretty thin, then cut in ribbons most of the way from top to bottom, then the guy picks up the strips, pulls a couple together and makes the rest into a ball shape. He then places this ball into a cup shaped frying utensil and puts it in oil to bake. They offer them in all sorts of flavors and fillings. This is a lovely place, as soon as we saw it we knew we were going to try it. the staff was friendly and very patient with us as we kept asking about the many options. We loved the coffee and the schneeball was ok,...I'm not saying that other places had better, is just that they were not what we were expecting. We do not regret trying them, this is obviously a must if you're visiting Rothenburg, we were just expecting something a little bit different

Other than visiting Jerusalem, this is my new favorite walled city to visit. And of course no visit would be complete without getting one of these delicious desserts. I bought the Carmel one but my new favorite was the cinnamon one. Wish I could legit...make these. So good

Diller claims to be the originator of the local fried dough snowball know as a Schneeballen. Worth the visit to watch the baker in action. Recommend the original. ;p
