OK so.... the restaurant/cafe was closed for a long time for redecoration and re organisation. This seemed to imply that the wait would be worth it and the improvements would be logical! well ...that 's what we thought anyway! In the good old days you could choose from going to 2 long counters. Cakey things at the beginning of one, leading to hot food. A quick glance as you queue (never for very long) meant you could see if you fancied anything from the hot counter of just have a (2 for the price of 1) scone. OAP half price signage on relevant days was clearly to be seen. Fast (or slow if you 're queuing) to the present. The counter for hot drinks is so short that only 2 staff members can co...
A shambles. The coffee machine was broken so it was waitress service. The system is complex since they renovated the. Cafe. Then thirty five minutes from being shown to a table and three requests to be served, we were eventually served but it took a further 10 minutes before the drinks came. So a 45 minute wait which is totally unacceptable. Many who came in after us were served first. A grated carrot was found in the tea when it was poured! The waitress offered to replace the tea , saying it was probably from the dishwasher machine! By that time we were ready to leave as we could not bear the thought of a further wait, so left.
I ordered the smashed avocado on sourdough toast with poached eggs, but unfortunately, poached eggs were not available due to a lack of gas. I found it surprising that they were able to make a full English breakfast without gas. I ended up getting fried eggs instead. The smashed avocado tasted more like store-bought pureed guacamole, and the sourdough toast was not even toasted. It seems like they normally use a gas-powered toaster. In the end, I spent £27 on two disappointing breakfasts. That's it for me.
Because due to the revamp of the Restaurant, the queues to purchase a tea or coffee now ,can be long and time consuming .I used to come on a regular basis when I could grab a cup from the machine and at least two on a till.I hardly bother now as time is a issue .Now half the area is only used for those that want to order food. A very poor Design no thought was given to peaple who wanted a quick drink and snack.

Visited with husband for our monthly tea and coffee,both decided to have a scone mine cheese husbands fruit. We have previously had these on other visits and they have not been good but decided to give them another go. Never again it was like eating dough difficulty putting butter on them as they just crumbled. They really need to employ someone who knows how to bake as these were inedible .
This place is not very clean. The food and drinks are overpriced and not very good, certainly not as good as they used to be. Queues are long because there aren’t enough staff and the staff who are there are unpleasant probably because they are overworked. You can find a better deal next door in Tesco’s cafe
Breakfast with Santa December 2023. It was a reasonable pleasant experience with our grandson. He got to meet the Santa and got a present. The food was ok but it was served little late. The kids enjoyed the experience though. Worth giving it a go next year.
I recently enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at this restaurant. The cake was delicious and the tea was of high quality. The seating area was much better than before. I also recommend taking some time to browse around the store afterwards.

The traditional breakfast at this restaurant was disappointing. It included a sausage, half a slice of bacon, half a tomato, a mushroom, black pudding, hash brown, a hard fried egg, and toast, all served cold.
