The people and the service are nice. The food is mostly made of absolutely premium materials and fresh. The problem is that with good materia prima you don't need a lot of sauces. I had a starter of beef tartar a la Thai. Taste good,...meat fresh, I could have done without the tendons in the meat. The main dish of my wife was lotte and gamba's. Well cooked but with two different sauces that were unnecessary. My main dish was goat, there was so much (a bit too salty) sauce on the meat that the taste of the meat was totally masked. on the way back from skiing around 18 clock on a very wet, dark february Saturday night. the drive from the autobahn a4 a26 is easy. the greeting was friendly. we haven't seen anyone anymore, but the accommodation is in 11 log cabins... to arrange a separate pool block, so it was hard to say. we parked outside our cabins, so there was a 100-yard walkway to the restaurant, take them a brolly or motel when it is wet. the cabins were spacious, warm and comfortable, with internet access. it did not come into the pool, but the restaurant was very good, with a warm welcome and friendly (if a little unpolished) service we had a very pleasant evening, with 8-month enkelin again nice behavior or slee...
the domaine de foolz lies on the ufer of its among the gentle hills of burgund. the accommodation is located in wooden houses, which are arranged in a semi-circle around the hall-bath building, with private parking and grassy outdoor seating area and more pleasantly view. the rooms are well furnished and comfortable, a bit hot when the weather is very warm, but we had no mosquitoes after opening the windows in the night. we stopped one night. the restaurant is very good for dinner. beautiful location with views of the river. enjoy fish, scallops and foie gras and a good selection of French wines, including of course many good burgunder. breakfast is in order, nothing special, usual croissant...
We stayed at Foolz as an overnight stop travelling back home. We liked the modern log cabins. They are very comfortable and were cool on a very hot day. (Presumably they are also warm on a cold day) A pleasant change to converted crooked old...building or characterless Campanile type modern block. The location is very rural on the banks of the Seine about 20 minutes drive from the two closest A26/A5 junctions. The restaurant is in the old farm buildings with a riverside terrace. It is on the expensive side and the menu does have some bizarre dishes so choose carefully. (We find that this seems to apply to all restaurants we have visited in this area

we were taken there for lunch by friends. it is from the beaten stretch a few kilometers outside of bar-sur-seine on the road to troyes. there is a magnificent terrace next to the river, but with temperatures in the mid-30s everyone was eaten in the...well air conditioning restaurant. service was friendly and timely, the menus were interesting and eating well cooked and beautifully presented. I had a five cursor menu at a surprisingly reasonable price. an extensive weinlist allowed some good weine with additional choices on a noteboard. parking is easy. although it was not full for lunch, a reservation for dinner is recommended.
We've only tried this once, as a spur of the moment stop for lunch whilst heading north towards Calais, and found it very pleasant. The dining room [or terrace] looks down across the garden to the Seine, which is a shallow smallish river at this...point. We ate a very decent lunch, especially the amuse-bouche a sort of melon soup] and the main course [guinea fowl on a bed of roasted root vegetables including three colours of carrot]. Will definitely merit a return visit.
there are two menus. we had the 36€ menu. the smoked forelleneklair was visually stunning and equally good to taste. the kalbsfilet with a selection of "old root vegetables for the second cure was also beautifully presented and well preserved. this was...after a selection of cheese (very nice) and dessert. all were very for our joy.
You do not go to the Domaine de Foolz for the food or for the decor, but for the view on the river Seine and the calm you can experience in a nice sunny day. It is also a good basis if you want to...explore the producers of champagne of the Cote de Bar, a region so much different from the other three.
