2018 Dec: $8 affords you a quick and decent men's haircut. Ralph, the barber/owner, is old school. Most, if not all, the haircuts look like he's getting you ready for a walk-on role on Mad Men. He runs the place by himself for the last few decades and you can always call ahead to see how many are in front of you. If you are planning to come late afternoon, definitely call to make sure he is still there, especially on weekends. If there isn't much action going on, he's going to close early. I'm approaching 40 y/o but most of the other customers I've seen are definitely more senior. Nice old school style barbershop. Located on 2nd street between Hamilton St Maiden Lane, around the corner from the BROOK theater. Ralph runs the shop is a very good barber. He is very pleasant and quite skilled. No fancy stuff here.....just a real good haircut using comb scissors. Ralph later applies a little hot lather around the back of the neck sideburns skillfully uses a straight edge to give you that clean finished look. A little witch hazel finishes it off. All this while Frank Sinatra plays on the radio some good conversation with everyone in the shop.....a very pleasant experience. His $8 price is very reasonable even with a good tip added on. It has been in operation since 1926, with Old Ralph as the perfect host for the last 50 years—quite an impressive tenure! The haircut I received was excellent, featuring an old-school scissor-and-comb technique that I appreciate; no frills, just the way I like it. The stories shared by Ralph were a delightful bonus as we chatted about golf, the Yankees, and interesting tidbits about our town, Bound Brook. Ralph/Elks barbershop is the best deal in Central NJ . . . and Ralph is always in a good mood and talkative . . . if you want to talk . . . if not, he just does his bizness with your hair . . . I have been going to Ralph for over 45 years now . . . and he has saved me so much money, I was able to retire early last year . . . heck, I like him so much even had him at my wedding over 35 years ago . . . check him out . . . hes' the bestest!

Nice local shop. Only one barber working this afternoon. Place is older decor but well maintained. Cost me $8.00 plus a good tip. One block from train station. Does not work well for most commuters since it opens at 8:00 and closes at 5:00. But since I am getting to Bound Brook at 3:45 some days; I will be going again sometime soon.
This guy is amazing! He keeps you laughing the whole time. I strongly recommend visiting Elk's for an excellent haircut and a good laugh. And the price is just $8—can you believe it? I've always been loyal to one barber, but since moving to this area, I’ve found my new favorite!

New to the area and needed a haircut so I tried out Elks. Ralph is a great guy and gave me a great cut for half the price of anywhere else. If you're going later in the day, make sure to call as Ralph will close up early if nobody is coming in.

On June 10, 2022, Ralph passed away, marking the end of an era. He will be greatly missed by many. Rest in peace, Ralph!
