We have been coming to Espanol for years and usually spend every Christmas Eve here. Since having a child we have not been able to get there so a very rare night off meant we booked a table for last night. As soon as we arrived we noticed the atmosphere was not as welcoming as normal and were put on the high stools by the door to dine. We were told they had a large party in who had all the menus so could not offer us one. This large party that turned out to be just 9 people was mentioned several times to us and the table next to us and we realised they would be the main priority for the evening. We had our drinks order taken but no drinks appeared. We were given 1 menu and they came to take...
After waiting for an hour and a half, I finally had to inquire about our starters. The waitress didn't apologize for the delay, she simply said she would check on them. The starters arrived shortly after, but the mushrooms were lukewarm and my husband's chicken was just okay. To make matters worse, our mains were brought out just two minutes later while we were still eating the starters. Despite being hungry, we didn't complain at the time. When we went to settle the bill, we were asked if everything was okay. I mentioned that the food was good, but the wait was too long. This was my second time visiting the restaurant, after the first time the food really disappointed me unfortunately the second time was the same. The tapas dishes are over priced for what they are and the potato’s bravas is just boiled potatoes laid on a plate no presentation. You can tell the food is bought it as cheap as possible and made with minimal effort. It’s a real shame because the restaurant has potential to show off some amazing Spanish cuisine but unfortunately the food lets them down every time. Staff really friendly, and drinks good.
The food here is excellent, so to give this place another try after really poor service the first time we went. Unfortunately, it seems like this is standard! We made sure to place our order ASAP and after an hour we had nothing. We then asked how long it would be and watched the waitress laugh when she realised she’d forgot our order. If it wasn’t late at this point we would have left to go elsewhere. Really disappointed as we love the food but it really ruined the night ..

The food at this restaurant is delicious and the staff is excellent! We had not visited before and went in without a reservation. We couldn't find any faults with the food, service, or atmosphere. Everything was perfect. The atmosphere was relaxed, informal, and comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and genuine. We will definitely be returning.
Absolutely fantastic tapas, very tasty and well presented. Really pleasant and helpful staff. Our lovely waitress recommended certain tapas which we tried and they were all delicious. We go to Spain regularly but these were better than any tapas we’ve had in Spain! Will definitely be back and certainly recommend to our friends.
Food was amazing, especially the Piquillo Rellenos and the Sobrasada. The drinks were delicious. The staff were lovely and helpful. I will definitely be coming back for more!
Yesterday I was in espanol for the first time. I loved it. the aioli is the best I tasted, eating was delicious and the owner was a joy. we will definitely be back xxx
