duisburg has only a few places I would talk to friends for an evening. yes, finkenkrug is visited by university students (the uni is a stone's throw away after all), but knowing the picture of a college bar in the usa, this is fully civilized and suitable even for the work area. This is a typical college student hangout except for the amazing beer selection. It currently stands at 222 beers and will soon reach 300 when the new menu comes out. The food is good pub food, some of it even great. There are several negative...comments about the service. IMHO, service is normal for a German pub, no better, no worse. Unless you are doing fine dining in Germany, expect to have to flag down a server or even go to the bar to ask to be served. While this is odd for American expectations, it is completely normal here and no one gets too upset about it.
