In August I came down for a holiday in Sutton to be close to two excellent friends who I met in Corfu in August 2019. Towards the end of my holiday I thought I would try Finnegan’s Fish and grill . My order was for haddock and chips and when I had them brought to the table I was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of the batter on the fish. The batter was a thin one evenly coating the fish with a nice smooth appearance and when the batter was broken into the haddock was a clean and amazingly white colour and so beautifully fresh to eat. After completing a 6-week course on British culture, we decided to treat our Ukrainian guests to lunch at a restaurant we had booked in advance. We made sure to put in every effort to ensure the lunch would be a success, and it truly was. Our visitors thoroughly enjoyed the food, and even delighted us with Ukrainian folk songs. The dishes were delicious, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure the lunch was a fun and memorable experience.
This was the first time I have been disappointed at Finnegans. The plaice was almost liguid in the middle.... not cold, but almost liquid. I have no idea what caused this, as the fish was white, as it should be. The chops were reheated or had been too long in the rabge, as they were not fresh fried. To be fair, the restaurant was very busy, but fish and chips here is not cheap, and I expected better.
My wife and I, both in our mid-70s and seasoned diners at upscale restaurants like Le Gavroche, Langans, and The Wolseley, decided to visit Finnegans for fish and chips after a lovely afternoon outing. Despite the high prices, we enjoyed the delicious cod and chips and overall had a wonderful experience. Book a table now
I had a disappointing meal today. My husband's fries were overcooked, and the fish was flavorless. My steamed fish was bland, and the potatoes were undercooked. The frozen vegetables were soggy. The meal was also pricey. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this restaurant.
Unplanned lunch out. I remembered the name but did not recognise the place. Lovely clean interior. Fantastic service delicious food. Definitely going back to try the other items on the menu. The grilled haddock, truly scrumptious.
Absolutely Lovely Extremely clean very professional friendly waitress Food freshly cooked and good quality I think it’s recently been refurbished as decor modern and welcoming. Reasonably priced. Will definitely be back!!
