"The dishes were globally good though I should say it was not the best fried fish I had so far. The ambient really nice and prices not that terribly high like you would expect in Switzerland."

The tavern Fluegelrad, more than 130 years old, had been closed for some time when a few years ago three Olten personalities – two writers and a journalist – bought and rebuilt it. Ever since it has been reopened this restaurant has become a popular place for lovers of hearty cuisine. As you would expect from such a restaurant, it is neither an elegant nor a trendy place. It is simply furnished and its atmosphere is rustic. Nevertheless, you feel comfortable there, whether you are a white or a blue collar worker. Its location, a few steps from the railway station, is a plus. A drawback is that Fluegelrad is closed on weekends. As the chef told me these opening hours help to make the staff ha...

We stayed at the hotel next door in august 2013 and with it raining, wanted to stay close for dinner. We were a couple with our 3 year old daughter. Place looked nice some ventured inside. Excellent service and they were very nice to our daughter. She is well behaved in restaurants but I am usually on edge anyway as I don't want to disturb anyone else if she is not. Place was filled mostly locals it seemed. Typical swiss dishes -fish, schnitzel, etc. The steak was excellent. Prices moderate for Switzerland with generous portions. Would dine again.

Wonderful homely place next to the train station. Small fresh menu, prepared with love and a touch of originality. The two sisters in charge of the service are incredibly friendly, with an infectious joie de vivre. The food is excellent and generously served at a very reasonable price. Also worth a stop in between meals for the homemade cake. We've been there twice the last time rather late at night when the kitchen was closing. They went out of their way to serve us a perfect meal, including dessert.

I have now eaten in this small friendly eatery four times and have consistently been greeted with great food and service. Always a warm welcome no matter the hour and advice for those not familiar with the menu. The homemade food is tasty and in good portions. Much better value than the bigger restaurants in town and deserves to be much higher than number 13 in Olten. If you're staying here it is well worth a visit for dinner.
