I had a frustrating experience at the Pilot location last night. The night manager, Nick, wouldn't let me shower, claiming the system was down. While I could have booked one shower through the app, I'm a team driver and need two. The pilot also refused to manually unlock the door for my teammate and me to shower separately (this happened around midnight on 11/14/22). It's disappointing to see how Pilot has declined. This kind of experience has reinforced my decision to avoid Pilot and Flying J; too often, the lines are long, the staff is unfriendly, or I encounter situations like this. Thanks, Pilot.
I gave Flying J 2 stars today solely because the shower had hot water, which I appreciated. However, the overall experience was far from satisfactory. The parking lot appeared neglected, with no cleaning done for days, and several homeless people lingering near the entrance. Many parking spaces were taken up by drop trailers left unattended by drivers. Walking from the lot to the shower, I noticed a strong sewage smell. Needless to say, management seems to have little control over the situation. Overall, poor management. Flying J should be ashamed of this location.
The restaurant could really use a more attentive manager who pays more attention to cleanliness. Normally, I leave a $20 tip for the staff who clean the showers, but this time I felt it was better to hold off, and I'm glad I did. It quickly became clear that the person hadn’t actually cleaned the shower or anything else. I won't go into too much detail, but be cautious about where you hang your clothes and avoid touching the walls. Also, be sure to place your shoes on the counter; anything you can't see crawling around might just end up coming home with you.
LACK OF COURTESY! I visit this gas station twice a week as part of my routine. After filling up my tank, I got my coffee and went to the cashier (who was on the night shift). I always use my rewards card when I pay. However, this time the system was slow, and I was told to pay in cash. Unfortunately, I had left my wallet in my truck. The cashier refused to let me take the coffee. I would have happily paid for it, but a little courtesy would have gone a long way. It shows that you value your customers. I'm really disappointed!

If I were as rude as the male cashier currently working, I would have been fired a long time ago! He speaks over the loudspeaker as if the parking lot belongs to him. I even reported his behavior to a security guard. While I understand there was a long line, his rudeness is unacceptable. There are much better ways to handle the situation—he definitely needs to improve his people skills!
The showers were covered in mold and had body hair everywhere, which was completely disgusting. The trash bins at the fuel pumps were overflowing with old food that seemed to have been there for a long time. I definitely won’t be returning to this location.
The restaurant can get busy, but there are plenty of food choices nearby and excellent views of downtown Albuquerque.
