Me, my mom, niece, and daughter ate breakfast here while visiting from the USA on Saturday, August 12th. I was really looking forward to going due to the reviews on this site. The food and overall service was good. I am giving 2 stars due to the poor service received from one of the hostess/waitress named Mary. While waiting to be seated by another hostess/waitress, Mary comes over to us and ask how many were in our party. We tell her 4. She then ask the ladies BEHIND us the same question, they say 4 and she takes them to be seated. The first hostess is shocked and so is the manager. We were glad to find that the recommendations as a top family friendly restaurant for Frans were spot on. We enjoyed dinner here so much we came back again and for breakfast. The service was friendly and attentive, food was good and great value (particularly for city diner). It was popular but we managed to get a table. Good for burgers, BBQ chicken and pasta. Appreciated option of mash instead of fries. Not too spicy either. Breakfast was filling and we took what we didn't eat as takeaway.
Haven't been to Toronto for awhile, but we always return to Fran's at least once per visit. While my wife was shopping, I decided to check out Fran's Upstairs. Actually, they have a second floor as well as a third floor. Just had a couple of draught without food. I was there mid-afternoon so it was pretty quiet. Nice place with good ambiance - they even have some type of water misting happening. Maybe due to the warm sun for most of the afternoon. Recommended.
Back with the kids about 15 years after my wife and I were last here. Great breakfast menu and ambiance. Food pretty solid; service was just okay as waitress seemed to be running off her feat. She did give good recommendation on the omelette - more coffee would have been great. Overall still a good experience and left happy.

We were at Fran's twice during our Toronto vacation. This is your down home, vinyl booths, good food at a reasonable price diner. They have a full bar and reasonably priced drinks. For comfort food this is a good spot. Club sandwich was great. Pies were delicious. All of our food was well prepared. Friendly, prompt service.
I love Fran's so much. I go back weekly!! I have a different breakfast each time. The retro feel is cosy, and the coffee is great. I also love the hash they serve.
We were only in Toronto for one week but we went to Frans three separate times. The food was delicious, reasonably priced and good portion sizes. Friendly staff.
Had breakfast here on our first morning in Toronto. Great service, lovely food, good location! Husband had corned beef hash, I had a waffle with bananas =yummy!
