This seems to be an Iranian hangout in an area with a huge Iranian community.The restaurant is in a bit of a formerly-dingey light industrial area which may be up and coming now. A bit dark inside, one can see into the kitchen to see the cooks grilling food. It is genuine grilling not on regular skewers but what looks like swrd-shaped ones.I decided on the chicken with walnuts and pomegrenate. Maybe a mistake as it wasn't grilled. The flavours are subtle and took over a day to develop. The other dish we had was a very good lamb shank in rice with a green herb. Not full of sauce but very good. It'd look like foods that are grilled at the best and that's what we'll order when we go there next....
If had been forever since I enjoyed Persian food, and I would have been happy to devour koobideh (a grilled minced meat kabob) served with a tomato, rice, and salad. I forgot to order the yogurt which adds a nice condiment to the meal. The food at this restaurant is fair, but not hearty compared to some of the Persian restaurants on nearby Lonsdale avenue. I'm giving a poor rating (2 instead of 3) mainly due to the lack of customer service, and not the entree. For whatever reason, the waitress did not like our indecision when we asked if we could have a few more minutes. Gilaneh Persian Grill is an interesting, dark, old style restaurant in North Vancouver. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed watching the cook grill kabobs on the fire-y bbq through the kitchen window while waiting for our take away dinner of lamb shank and chicken stewed with pomegranate and walnut. The food was tasty and the chicken stew had interesting flavours. Next time I'd have a kabob grilled over the open flame - they looked amazing.
Tonight there were a group of about 12 of us who went for dinner at the Gilaneh Grill house. I have to say not only me but the whole group that that everything was absolutely fantastic!!! The food was excellent and the staff really went out of their way to take good care of us. Really great experience for sure we'll be coming back many times in the future with our family and friends. The dishes and cutlery were dirty. The food had a funny taste all around. Garlic in the yogurt. Garlic in the drink. The kabab felt like I'm chewing groud fat not meat. Most probably it was ground fat. No one finished the food. Then came time to pay. I had a Groupon. I see a $10.99 service charge on my bill. I emailed what it was and I was told we had to pay that if we use Groupon. I paid. Won't go back again.
we went there for lunch. Asked for a couple of glasses of water and it came after 15 minutes. The food was terrible. The waitress kept cleaning other tables with Windex and the small of chemical was terrible and I got headache. I am very very disappointed and will never come back to this terrible place with such a negative and upsetting customer service.
The atmosphere and decor is in need of a bit of an upgrade and that is the reason for the average rating but the food has always been a sort of a benchmark at which other new persian restaurants have been compared to.Great venue if you are a group of people looking for a more private and relaxed atmosphere.Enjoy and have fun!
A little confused. Ordered a med cheeseburger meal for here. Ended up with 2 cheeseburgers and large upgrade. Not so sure the girl speaks English Book a table now
My gdaughter loves this playground and the food is always good, fast and fresh._We visit here at least 1-2 times a month.
