I visited Golden Chick at 227 Enterprise Blvd, Hewitt, TX 76643, around 3:30 pm on Friday, August 14th. I ordered the triple tender sandwich and chicken salad for lunch. Unfortunately, the salad contained wilted lettuce and had an unpleasant odor when I opened the container. The cheese was visibly moldy. I asked to replace the salad with the 3-piece fried catfish, but it arrived with soggy spots and appeared undercooked, showing black, wet areas that suggested it wasn’t cooked properly. I also noticed that several tables, including mine, had food crumbs on them even after I had been seated for over an hour. The chicken sandwiches didn’t have any pickles like shown in the photos. The buns were overly sweet, almost like eating donuts with the chicken. Neither of us could finish our sandwiches. It feels like someone with plenty of money launched this chain but put little to no effort into the food or menu. We ordered three sandwiches—two regular chicken and one spicy. The spicy chicken was just coated in red spice, which was basically the only difference from the regular one. We're not usually picky about chicken spots, but we were really disappointed here.
This is the first time I've been disappointed by a Golden Chick in Texas. The Lotta Zing sauce tasted watered down, the rolls were dry and lacked butter on top, and the fried chicken was bland with no flavor—same with the fries. The location in Elgin, TX gets it right every time, which explains their constant long lines. I won’t be returning here. Luckily for them, Walmart employees nearby will keep them in business.
My husband went to order their Tender Tuesday special, but they overcharged him. When he tried to resolve it, the manager raised her voice at him and refused to help. The customer service was terrible. They charged $64 for two 16-piece orders—one original and one spicy—but didn't apply the special. I would give zero stars if it were possible.
