I asked a local outside the St. Stephen’s Cathedral for the name of a restaurant that served traditional Bavarian food. We decided to try it and was not disappointed. There is seating indoors and outdoors. Every day there is a special for Euros per...person. We went for the specials which included a salad with green beans and potatoes and fried potato sticks with sauerkraut. Both were very good. We also sampled the local beer. This restaurant was damaged heavily during the floods but has been rebuilt. Attached to the restaurant is a pension (hotel) that can accommodate up to twenty people in its seven rooms. The restaurant is within walking distance from the cathedral.

The Goldenes Schiff can be found on an alleyway leading from the Dom to the River Inn in old Passau. It has traditional Bavarian dining rooms but there is a wonderful beereating garden in the rear and tables are set out front on the wide...pavement. The food is real Bavarian stock cooked in the 'slow food' tradition of intelligent sustainability with the freshest foods. The restaurant has received a national 'Slow Foods' award. On busy nights, reservations are a must. Be prepared to wait as many of the dishes are individually prepared. This is particularly so on popular nights. The Goldenes Schiff is very popular with locals
Stumbled in on an early evening quest for food with a family of four and no reservation. Nevertheless we were warmly welcomed and got a table within five minutes of our arrival. The menu is diverse and has a selection of traditional and international dishes,...including a number of vegetarian options and meals tailored for children. Prices are moderate, but good value for money. With a number of books availale for small children and very child friendly staff, this restaurant deserves a recommendation for those looking for food in Passau

We recently went on a Viking Danube river cruise. On a stop in Passau, we asked our guide for a recommendation for lunch in the Old Town. She recommended this restaurant and we are glad she did. They had a great variety of German dishes...and also great salads that would work for my wife who has to eat glutenfree. The portions were large could probably be shared if you are not a big eater and the beer was good! They do not take credit cards, though, so have your Euros ready
Very happy we found this “hidden gem” off the beaten track in Passau. It is tucked away on a side street, off of a main shopping area. We had a very enjoyable dinner. The menu had Bavarian dishes as well some with a Mediterranean flair....The food was very good. Also the ambiance in the restaurant’s cozy Gastgarten was comfortable, family oriented, relaxed not touristy. If you want to go “local” in Passau, Goldenes Schiffe has our high recommendation
Virtually all over Bavaria and certainly in Passau you will find tons of restaurants serving Schweinebraten, Serviettenknödel, Sauerkraut or some other typical German food. In the Goldenes Schiff they serve organic Bavarian cuisine. Very tasty and all that at fair prices. Staff is friendly which...is not the general impression we got from Passau restaurants and cafes
We really liked this restaurant, the staff, the atmosphere and the meals were so nicely prepared. Lots of locals always a good sign. Thus our two visits both were events we appreciated and will be remembered fondly

Enjoyed a great meal at the Goldenes Schiff sitting outside in the pleasant little square. The Schnitzel was excellent. Good value for money too
Just a lunchtime snack. Waiter didn't disk any English but we got by with pointing. Nice souppancake. Bottle of water euro
