Was looking for some good Cali bbq, found this and I do have to say that the bbq itself definitely lives up to the hype. Not the best I’ve ever had but the best I’ve had in Cali!I had the brisket and Mac n cheese.First the star; the brisket. The meat was super tender and juicy, moist with the perfect amount of fat and char. Taste was very good and overall it was just a great example of bbq, not just for the west coast but in general. I’d give the brisket a 4.7/5 star rating!The Mac n cheese, well it was a disappointment. As for the potato salad, it had more of a mashed potato consistency than I expected. I was hoping for a traditional chunky style with a bit more acidity. I just craved something to add a bit of brightness, like a mustard-based Carolina BBQ sauce.
Overall, Gorilla BBQ definitely lives up to the hype, and I was genuinely surprised!
Update 7/24: Last weekend, we managed to get a half BBQ chicken before it sold out, and it was the best BBQ chicken I’ve ever had! So tender, well-seasoned without being too salty, and incredibly juicy—just perfect. I am from the south and o have been to all the greats, which is why I can say that gorilla has solid BBQ from a homesick Southerner. Not to say the place is spectacular, it isn't. The pulled pork, however is smoky and flavorful. I was plsantly sprised by the brisket which wasn't rubbery or lifeless like it is at so many joints. The ribs are the weakest link. They have all the right parts, just something did seem to work. All and all though good bay area BBQ that can nourish the BBQ junkie's soul.
Ribs 5/5, brisket 3/5. Honestly the ribs are just exceptional and usually available as people seem to come for the brisket. Perfect level of smoke and balance in texture. Fallsoff the bone but still holds up. Grab someCorn bread and slaw.Pulled pork is solid as well.Having family in Texas, the brisket doesn’t compare to down south. I had a great BBQ experience here for my birthday. The portions are large and the meat is delicious. The ribs were outstanding, the pulled pork was tasty, and the sausage links were spicy but enjoyable. While it may not be the best BBQ I've ever had, it's definitely worth a visit. You certainly get your money's worth!
The two-meat combo was more than enough for me and my meat-loving friend Nabeby, and we even had leftovers! The pulled pork and ribs were both delicious. However, the beans and rice were rather dull. The sides we ordered, the potato salad and mac and cheese, were just average. If you visit, focus on the meat!
Excellent food! Fast and cheerful service out of a caboose railcar! Wish they were open more days (weekend only at present) and no seating, so plan on take out. Our favorite San Francisco Bay Area barbecue! We eat on nearby beach!
It's a takeaway spot, but the food is absolutely fantastic. I tried the brisket, and it was incredibly tender. The medium potato salad is a perfect side that complemented the meat wonderfully.
