This place is awesome. Update 5/14/23: As a family we hadn't been here in about 4 years. For a Mother's Day, I thought it might be a bit busier. Be prepared that it will be a little chilly. They keep it cool inside. You will also be charged an extra ,75 for ranch dressing. Food took a while to be served but that might have been a staffing issue. There wasn't a lot of staff present, i.e. there was one waitress. The chicken was really hot and tasted fresh. The okra was warm. The greens were really good. Our waitress was very friendly.

The chicken tasted great, but oh my God they are incredibly slow and their customer service is heavily lacking. Four different times people from my table had to get up and go to the counter to request a drink refill. It took almost 40 mins to get our food (4 person table, 12 pieces of chicken total). When the food did come, the fries were cold. The portion size on the sides were embarrassingly small. Again, the chicken is great, but everything else about the experience will stop me from coming back.
By far the Best fried chicken the flavor is amazing, the fried green tomatoes omg, have i missed those. And i introduced my friend to okra... okra has found a new friend... too full for now, but can't wait to try the chocolate chess pie. It was worth the detour to check out. Highly recommend. The service was friendly and great, the manager came to our table and was truly interested in our experience. This being the reason for my first ever yelp review.
This is not your typical fast food chicken place, so don't expect generous portion sizes for the prices they charge. Located on a college campus, this chicken joint offers alcohol which is a selling point for some. If you prefer non-corporate fried chicken, it's best to visit places like Nu Wave or other smaller chicken joints in the city. However, if you're just looking for some decent chicken to enjoy with a beer, this spot might be worth a try. Book a table now
I kind of figured fried chicken is fried chicken but I was wrong. Gus's is soooooooo good!! Everything we ordered was perfect and delicious. My mouth waters every time I think about it. I've got a list of people I want to take to Gus's so they can experience it too. And yes, this sounds crazy cause it's a fried chicken place, right? But it really is that great! Go now!
The best fried chicken in Detroit! Seasoned to a spicy-crispy perfection on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Only slightly disappointed in today’s order, but only because they were out of my favorite side dish, fried okra. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for fried chicken spots in midtown.
Deliciously seasoned and amazingly crispy skin with juicy chicken to the last bite. Only wish it was larger pieces. These looked rather small for their size. The sides were good, not overly salted and accompanied the chicken very well. Reasonably priced. Would recommend and would go back.
My fav place for fried chicken. I first ate at Gus’s in Chicago and then looked them up when I moved this side of the state. Amazing juicy crispy chicken for super reasonable rates. Pleasant customer service as well. Love the vibe as well! Book a table now
Really good chicken. Only seems to come spicy but not overly. I’ve been here a half dozen times and the chicken always seems to be a tad overcooked. But it’s still some of the best store-bought you’ll find.Food: 5/5
