"I have been here a few times now and this place is really consistent with food quality! The lemon chicken is a must try. The only thing I hate is how smoking is permitted outside; it is such a tiny shop and it wafts in through the door. When I first visited Happy Family Inn back in 2013 it blew me away with how amazing the food was and how friendly the staff were, now is 2015 and the food has gone down in quality a little and now the staff just sort of "go through the motions".
Looking past these two things this place is still my favourite Chinese in Perth by far, the quality of the dishes is just far beyond anything you will find in the suburbs and does well considering it's in the same area as the two juggernauts "Uncle Billys" and "Billy Lees" and manages to take them to school in almost every aspect except for restaurant size of course.
Now the food, they have all the basics you will find in any Chinese and much more...

Very disappointed with tonight's dishes in regards to the portions. We had boiled beef and pickled vegetables w/ mixed intestines. The boiled beef; you were paying literally 80% of $16 (approx) for the bean spouts whereas the rest accounted for the amount of beef put in there - only like 10 max slices of small beef? Even worse for the intestines...

Tonight we had husband and wife, spicy mixed intestine hot pot and steamed chicken with garlic + ginger.The husband and wife needed to be more spicer and there was a something that needed to be added in to complete it. The steamed chicken was cooked well but the sauce...

Randomly walked into this restaurant for dinner because we would like to try something different as we have been tried the surrounding Chinese restaurants.
The waiter served us with some fish cracker snack right after we got our table. We were actually like the taste of food at first, but only realised that there were many SMALL BITES OF BONES in the food and it was really so annoying and unacceptable!
Been served with cut watermelon at the end and were thinking if there is any charge on those snacks and fruits. The answer is YES! *there is no such thing as free lunch*
