It 's such a shame the word Indian leads some people to have false expectations. Yes Hawkyns may look pricey, but only when compared to your standard Indian. This place is a million miles from standard , and the prices are sensible by fair comparison. Every single dish we have tried from the refreshingly small menu is truly exceptional in terms of skill, flavour, texture and presentation. Don 't expect anything vaguely conventional here. Expect adventurous but beautifully balanced, flavoursome dishes, at prices that compare very favourably with comparable up-market Indian restaurants in London. So why only 2 AA rosettes (and only a 4 star review here)? Well the decor is pretty basic, the ser...

Had Father’s Day set menu here which was good value and food was absolutely delicious. We were sat on a shared long table with a large family with babies in a small side room which did affect atmosphere but can’t blame the restaurant for that. Finally our service was lacklustre, we were a table of 5 and everything was brought in 4 so kept having to ask for more, had to rearrange drinks to be given to correct diners even though we said who ordered what. However we did inform the staff of this and it was expertly handled and they were very polite and understanding and removed service charge comped one of the drinks so was very pleased with the handling and would definitely recommend

Went there for the first time and chose the 5 course tasting menu. The first 3 courses were bite sized portions, 4th had rice, black daal naan as accompaniments followed by dessert. Having tasted Indian food in a lot of places in UK, I would say the food was very good but not mind blowing. Everything was tastefully presented looked good. But the wow factor was missing. Service was top notch attentive but not intrusive. The decor is quite pub like since the restaurant is housed in a very old hotel but that adds to the charm. Was quite busy for a Wed evening so it seems to be popular!!

I’m note sure I’ve ever had better modern Indian food. The location in Amersham is fantastic. Right on the quiet main street. Lined with pubs and cafes. My wife and myself are vegetarian and we just asked our waiter for recommendations. We both went with it and had a fantastic meal. Lots of vegetarian options. I couldn’t pick a stand out dish as I was blown away by everything. Great service too. Lovely cozy atmosphere. Can’t wait until we’re next in the area and we can go again. Book a table now

This was our third visit to the restaurant, which is quite unusual for us. We absolutely love the food and the service. The 6-course tasting menu, along with some additional dishes, all for £59, feels like excellent value. The main courses are a good size and leave you feeling very satisfied. Additionally, there is currently a special offer where you can book a table for free through OpenTable. We thoroughly enjoy dining here.

The food at this restaurant was ok but overly priced as was all other items. If I wanted to eat Indian cuisine I would be able to get a good meal for half the price of this restaurant and not have to travel for 30 odd miles to get there. The furniture in the restaurant is very basic and makes one feel like they are eating in a barn.

Very nice food in a lovely period building. Not what you'd usually expect for an Indian restaurant but made a nice afternoon out for us. The free parking at the back is very handy too and Amersham is a fun little town to visit. The dhal and rice were delicious. Loved the cumin flavour in the rice. Quite unusual but worked well.
