It's a sweet spot for anyone who wants to get away from it all for a spell. The food exceeded my expectations as we were passing through and just needed a square meal after not eating all day due to traveling to a somber event. This Cafe however did brighten our day with its nostalgic music piping through the establishment. I heard a soulful tune I hadn't heard since I was a child and immediately joined in singing the chorus.The sister greeted us as we approached the counter with a beautiful smile. On 09/14/2016I decided to go to this restaurant, even though it was 30 mins from my house, and so I decided to try this place out. As SOON as I walked in, I noticed it was a HUGE roach!! Yes, I said ROACH, on the counter moving around, and another customer noticed it and told his daughter to move. So as soon as I saw that, I made a complete turn-around and walked out. I still saw customer purchase food from this establishment, but that's on them, that not my money.. I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation and was really looking forward to it, especially since I had been craving rice and gravy for a while. I ordered beef ribs, greens, macaroni and cheese, and a side of rice and gravy. Unfortunately, everything was a disappointment! The ribs were incredibly tough, and the greens were not cooked properly. The rice and gravy had a sour smell, so I tossed it in the trash immediately. As for the macaroni and cheese, it was just awful. I remembered that the food was bad during my last visit years ago but thought it might have improved with time—how wrong I was! Not good. The food was subpar; my country fried steak and macaroni and cheese tasted like they came straight from the microwave, while my friend's fried whitefish was overcooked and still had bones in it. The sweet tea was overly sweet, resembling little more than a couple of cups of sugar mixed with brown water. Additionally, we had to navigate around a dirty mop bucket and a puddle on the floor to find a place to sit, and these messes were never addressed during our visit. Overall, this supposed soul food experience was utterly disappointing.

Prices are EXCELLENT!!! Food was pretty good. Mac and cheese and peach cobbler were very good. Cashier was very nice but the other one who gave us our food forgot basic utensils, napkins, straws. Thankfully we ate there lol. Tight atmosphere, no one cleaned the tables after customers left. But overall we were pleased. I’ll visit again when I’m back in the area.
My family came after landing at DCA to enjoy some soul food the five of us (My 15,13,11 yrold boys, their 4 yr old sister and I) ate two meals together and it was AMAZING!!! We’ll be coming back and bringing more family next time we’re in town!
I hate my sweet dear husband left home in the rain to get this. I ordered chicken wings but when I open my container it smelled like fish. The yam, okra, rice n gravy all terrible! Do yourself a favor skip this place all together!
The food is good. The greens are a little too sweet and the sweet potato pie is a little too nutmeg forward for my preferente, but as a whole, everything was fine. I will visit again.
