Whilst visiting our in laws in the Dordogne, my brother in law decided he wanted to eat out at lunchtime. Only snag was it was a Monday when many French restaurants are closed. Brother in law would not take no for an answer however, and dragged us to several places (all closed, but he never gives up) until we happened on the Belle Rive in Gagnac sur Cere, idyllically placed overlooking the river. I found the middle priced set menu here slightly better than that of its next door neighbour. However the slightly better food and the 'tries too hard ' service were offset by the slightly higher mark up on the local wines. Safe choice for the weekend.

We noticed this restaurant when we lunched at Auberge du Vieux Port and thought we should give it a try. We now wonder how we ever missed it during our previous visits. Excellent food, wine and service.
