There can’t be too many restaurants, anywhere in the world, that have been in business since the 1940s and are still in the same family’s ownership. According to the menu, IRU means three in the Basque language and represents not only the family’s heritage but, also, there were originally three bars owned by different family members. So, with that longevity, you’d reckon that they would be pretty good at what they do. Which makes me wonder if our less than stellar meal here was a combination of poor choices and catching the kitchen on an off night. Not least, as we ate here some years back with no issues. I’d like to hope it’s something like that, rather than something more fundamental going...

We visited as a family of 4, 2 adults 2 children. My pasta was fine, no offer of black pepper or Parmesan though. The children had chicken goujons which, when I went to cut them up, were raw inside. I told the waitress who swiftly took them away but it meant the adults ate their meal well before the children received theirs back. No real apology or offer of anything to apologise. The children’s menu is far from cheap, too, at 14euro per meal. Overall underwhelmed.

Iru is one of our favourite restaurants in Pollensa and we have had many lovely enjoyable meals there over the last 15 years. I still think their food is the best in the Port. Not sure why the staff are presently unfriendly. Also there is clearly an anti-children policy as the children’s meals are about 16 euros and pretty awful. Has the owner or management changed? Will come back for their lovely food next year but hope the ambiance improves
