Whilst Kingyo, with its peerless and incredible tasting Braised Beef Ribs, is my overall GTA favorite Japanese Izakaya. Up north, whenever I wanted a serious Izakaya fix, 'Ju ' inside Markham's J-Town is my automatic go to place. With an ultra-delicious Teriyaki Chicken Burger and a whole spectrum of yummy Yakinikus as main anchor to their massive and varied menu, this place is almost always packed in the evening. As such, we decided to have an early lunch there instead.Overall, food was extremely tasty and almost flawless in their preparation....may be for a few small pieces of slightly over-charred chicken liver. Expecting the stand out dishes to be their famed Yakinikus, I was surprised t...

Came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night and it was great that we made a reservation because the place was bumping!Sadly their chicken wings were sold out but we got the dumpling stuffed chicken instead. That was crazy good juicy although it was stuffed with meat inside. The takoyaki was also delicious - the Osaka don was essentially takoyaki in rice form which I LOVED because I've never seen that before and I love takoyaki. Lastly we shared the chef's social yakitori combo which was pretty good overall, I suggest adding some spices to increase some flavoring though.
This SPECIAL item has the really stinky fish smell and taste, and all bits and pieces are deep fried to max so they are extremely dry!I talked to the chef, and he knew the root cause of the problem which is the trash grade fish. Of course they refused to take their trash back. This reminds me the scrapple, a special item from Philadelphia, but scrapple tastes way better than this dish!!!Btw. one possible explanation of super deep fried extremely dry food is that the fish is not fresh, and deep fry is applied to mask the stinky smell.
We have been here many times both lunch and dinner. The food is always very tasty. They have a good selection of lunch special. I always get the $20 sashimi lunch which is better than most Japanese places in Markham/Richmond Hill area. We also got the Black cod lunch which was delicious. As usual, we get the $10 yakitori rice bowl which is by far the best grilled chicken. For dinner, we usually come here for Izakaya style (Japanese tapas) which is also very good but just a bit pricey. Book a table now
Do you like Ju/gu restaurants where all the staff yell really loudly for every person that walks in or out? Or yells for every order placed in the kitchen? No? Well thank goodness there's a place for people like us. You can get the small tapas plates and great authentic food, without the headache. The octopus cerviche with Wasabi is amazing! There's also a premium sushi plate that's great as well.
I've been coming here for years and always order the same dishes.I highly recommend the Gindara Daikon. It may not look appetizing, but I assure you that you can't find a tastier cod and radish dish anywhere else! I also absolutely love the Osaka Cha-han rice (fried rice with squid topped with the typical takoyaki seasoning and sauce.)
As izakaya's go in Toronto, I'd rate this place top ten. The dumplings that are chicken wings are a marvel and unique to this place (as far as I know.) You really can't go wrong with any Japanese owned Japanese restaurant. It is in their culture to take pride in their work and their reputation.
This is the best example of Izakaya style Japanese food in the Markham area. The staff is friendly and are all Japanese speakers. The chefs are all from Japan too.The food is always fresh and the selection is really remarkable. Everything from sushi and sashimi...More Book a table now
Good selection, great food, fast service. Price was very reasonable: $180 for 5 people including tax and tips. We ordered so much food and left no room for dessert!
It is always busy at night time, that's why u try the lunch instead. Food is good, feel comfortable on service, I definitely will come back again to try dinner.
