My sister-in-law [1588099843:Donna Bernier Conklin] brought us here on a recent visit from Maine. When I went down a alley to get to the dining room, I remembered a Speakeasy and had my doubts as to how this experience would be. We sat by a nice girl in shorts and a T-shirt in a dining room that reminded me of a neighborhood diner or diving bar. When we handed over leather bound menus, I fed myself when I opened it. To my surprise, along with the pizzas and burgers that I expected to see, I began to see words like cove, risotto and reduction, words that gave me hope that someone in the kitchen had some hacks or observed too much food net. Don't be fooled by the inconvenient appearance. The motto is a small place; great taste, and it is certainly apropos. The menu is extensive, but make sure you find out what the peculiarities are. If in doubt, you have the meat. Seriously. The staff is friendly, and the owner / chef is always in the kitchen or walk around the dining room. You go out their way to feel welcome and make sure you enjoy yourself. And seriously, try the meat.
This is a hidden gem. Don't judge a book. Pass through the local pub, through the kitchen in the back dining room. The menu had too many options to decide. We chose the specials, they must be specials for a reason. The filled shrimps and chickens Marsala were both excellent. Portion was big enough for two dinners, price for one. Our server was very pleasant and treats all diners. We'll make a second trip back.
I'm pretty sure Joes has the best food I've ever eaten in a restaurant. My husband and I have been here for years and just spent our 4th Valentines dinner here. I had the delicate risotto with a blue cheese dressing and it was definitely one of the best meals I ever had. It may not look so much, just look at it, but it will be one of the best meals you have ever when/if you try it!
