Although it was our fourth visit to Mayrhofen, we had never visited the Edelhutte. We set ample time aside, and on the second day of our holiday, made the ascent, from the top station of the Ahornbahn. I have heard this described as an easy walk, but despite relatively good fitness, and experienced walkers, I would say that it is medium to challenging, particularly if you are not keen on narrow paths very close to steep drops (like my wife). But the whole family (including a ten year old boy and a six year old girl) made it up there. One tip I would give is that when the path branches, with one route continuing upwards, and the other dropping across a flatter route, you continue going upward...
Took a longer than planned walk up the ahorn and came upon the Karl von Edel Hutte. Its actually the only place to eat up there and it was heaving. Had the Austrian pancakes and large beers to enable our recovery and celebrate our hike amongst all the professional walkers. Great views and healthy air. The waiter was good fun who came out amongst the hundred or so people and just shouted Pancakes for the English . That is thinking on your feet.Would recommend the Austrian pancakes to anyone visiting there.
We spend a nice night on this cottage, which was the start for us for the Berliner Höheweg, The food is simple, but good and also the rooms. Just be careful when you get off Mayrhofen. The way is long, especially if you wear a large backpack. Or take the cable car up and reach the cabin in 20min.
Short one to two-hour tour depending on the fitness from the maple railway. Arrival and take a cold beer on the outdoor terrace. Hat is at the middle height in an alpine bowl (corrie). Glaciers are long gone....Might see how to see grazing large horned goats on the way.
