Living on the other side of the Rhine, we often dine at one of the many starred restaurants in Alsace. Looking for somewhere different we have decided to start trying restaurants in Germany. Having seen various reviews, we went to the Kellerwirtschaft one lunchtime in June 2014. We were only offered the English version of the main a la carte menu which also listed a four-course tasting menu at 62€, which we chose. Yet another success for the Franz Keller wine and food emporium! Despite being open for less than 1 year, this place runs like clockwork. Small but very interesting menu, probably no more than 15 dishes in total, however the execution, presentation and flavor of my grilled veal steak was outstanding, absolutely one of the tenderest cuts I've ever tasted. The accompanying vegetables, simple large green peas and carrots were crunchy and fresh and continued with the theme of quality ingredients in a simple yet elegant style. This restaurant is in an eco building built in three levels into the hill with the roof of each level planted with meadowland. On this day in June all of the wild flowers were in bloom and sitting on the terrace looking out over the flowers to the hills was lovely. The inside is much more stark and modern and less atmospheric (in my opinion). We had a mixed salad of salad leaves, radishes, and almonds with a light almost flavorless dressing to start, and then asparagus soup with small fries balls of breadcrumb coated blood sausage (I think 11 euros) and home made penne with wild mushrooms, saffron, and a very fine cheese in a light cream sauce with broad beans (22 euros). During the Freiburg Weinfest, we were introduced to Franz Keller wines. Being fans of Weissburgunders or white burgundy, we found the winery and reserved a table for dinner. The tastes of summer were evident in the cold gespacho, the fresh salads, and the broad choice of regional favorites presented in interesting and tasty new ways. In addition, the aesthetics of the outdoor seating area will provide some magic to your meal. This will be a 'favorite' for us on return visits to Freiburg. If you are lucky and visit the restaurant during cherry season- hopefully their rendition of cherry pie ala mode will be on the menu!

a beautiful ambiente if they like this end-90 combination of concrete and wood. high-quality skid and a very good weinlist as well as a coffee machine. If the starters range from 15 to 30 eur, the main courses are 22-45 and the 4-course is...69, they expect trained staff and not temporarily untrained. eating was good, especially nice for the eye, but not going above average. therefore I must conclude sober: good, but not very, and certainly overpriced.
We walked over from Schwarzer Adler which is less than 10 minutes away. The shop was already closed. Very modern looking, but very tasteful with a warm feeling and lots of wood, building. We only had a drink. Indoor and outdoor seating with great views. Afterwards we walked up to the winery a little bit for the kids to have a look around. Definitely stop by.
Modern building with cellars and working wine making. It's on the top Floor- hence great views. Service is good! Had the monk fish prepared to perfection. Wine mostly from their vineyard. Great service. Definately a place with a difference in the area.
Perfect for a summer evening. Amazing setting in the Black Forrest just a quick drive from Freiburg. In the middle of the vineyard. Food of very high standard. The wine is of course off scale! Highly recommended.
