Treated the family for an impromptu breakfast last week after Christmas. The place was crowded and we didn 't make reservations. We were given a table in the back room away from the terraced room with a view. Service was a bit slack and unfriendly. The white rolls served during breakfast were low quality and very crumbly. Cakes were so-so, had better cakes elsewhere. Total price of breakfast EUR60 which by no means cheap and we didn 't even order any alcohols.
Only the bakery is excellent, breakfast was rather poor, unsatisfying and not tasty. I often buy bread, cakes and quiche here, they are really good and very tasty but the breakfast was very expensive and not worth at all. We called earlier in the day to reserve a table for breakfast and when arriving they told us that the kitchen was closed. We could only order boiled egg which took forever to come. A must for baked goods but avoid breakfast there.
Für meinen Geschmack gibt es hier den besten Kuchen in Marburg. Das Stammhaus im Südviertel ist ein sehr schön gestaltetes Café auf der Höhe der Zeit, in dem Tradition und modernes Ambiente geschickt kombiniert wurden. Aber wie gesagt: Allein schon die Qualität des Kuchens rechtfertigt die 5 Sterne und weitere Besuche!
Nice cafe. A bit busy at times and hard to get service, but the food is great! Try the chocolate, obviously that is their speciality. The cakes are also above the normal standard. Coffee is ok. Not bad but not special. Be prepared to wait. Service can be mixed. Some very friendly and some unfriendly.

Went here after a 25 year hiatus. Has not changed, the best cake I have ever had, that is the house torte.
