We visited the restaurant on a wet and windy Sunday, the reception was warm and as we had booked, a window table was provided for a great view. The waitress even offered to put the radiator on for us but it was warm in the restaurant, so not a problem. We ordered from one of the menus, my husband started with 6 oysters and I had the assiette de fruit de mer that came with langoustines, oysters, bulots and crevettes and was a meal in itself! For main course, I had the sea bass with dauphinnoise potato, my husband had the cod pot au feau with scallops, both dishes were delicious. To follow, he had the Tiramisu and I had three huge profiteroles. Absolutely fabulous meal all round, well worth an...

We were holidaying at Les Mathes with our two little Westies with our caravan and it was a very wet and windy day. We decided to go out in the car for a drive around the area and came across Meschers sur Gironde and the port. There were a row of restaurants and we picked La Caravelle because there were already a few people inside always a good sign. We were not disappointed. We had the plat du jour and the quality was excellent. The ladies working in the restaurant were lovely and one in particular, was extremely friendly and was telling us that she also had a Westie. I had the oysters and skate wing and my husband had foie gras and the cod. It was all cooked beautifully, very tasty and serv...

We have had lunch here several times and have never been disappointed. The restaurant is located on the harbourside and specialises in seafood. They have a three-course lunch menu with a good range of choices, but most of our group chose to eat from the extensive Carte. Moules cooked various ways are very good, as are dishes like ray wing. Service is very friendly and efficient, and the food is very good value. This is a lovely place to spend a leisurely couple of hours over lunch.

This is a great find. A little off the beaten track but well worth the effort to find it. Booking Sunday lunchtime advisable in the season. All freshly caught local fish as well as other dishes on the menu. Good variety of choice and friendly staff although they don't speak much English.
