La Ferme de Malte - Table reservation

We came to Villedieu-Les-Poêles somewhat by accident and the Tourist Information Office suggested La Ferme de Malte. Having been told that the town was almost fully booked up we did not hesitate and booked blind. What a great surprise it was to be faced with...such a wonderful setting. The old 'Commanderie ' is beautifully restored with taste and style. We were given room 3 to spend the night in (yes they do have four rooms for overnight guests) and it was just perfect. Very spacious with separate toilet and bathroom with a walk-in shower. The owners are wonderful people, very friendly and they run the hotel/restaurant very well indeed. We were staying in the town overnight and were looking for a bit of proper cooking and found this restaurant, recommended by our campsite patron. A couple own and run the restaurant and small hotel) and he cooks inventive and delicious food while she...looks after front of house unobtrusive but professional and friendly). A winning combination. We had the five course tasting menu and asked not to be told what the menu was so each course was a lovely surprise. Excellently matched by a good wine list We had a bottle each of white and red wine so we could accompany each course appropriately and they were happy to recork the remains so we could take them away with us in smart bottle bags) to fin...

I am pleased to report that standards here are as high as ever and prices are not exorbitant. The cooking is unfailingly interesting and the ingredients, especially on the Menu du Marche, superb. It does not get as many diners as it ought, partly because...of its location (though still in the town) and partly because it is a job to find it open, eg it is open on a Tuesday evening but not Wednesday or Monday. Well worth a visit if you have the chance. Service splendid, the right blend of attentiveness and non intrusiveness. On my last review the scores for service and value were errors I have corrected them for this one!

I recently bought a second home in Lower Normandy and have been creating a list of places to visit and recommend. I heard about La Ferme de Malte and enjoyed our recce. Cosy dining room, bizarre artwork and great food if not limited menu selection....We ordered almost everything between the five of us and it was all good. For now it stays in our top 5 local places. Definitely worth dropping into if you are in Villedieu or around (see also Les Bruyères too at Gouvets if you get the chance).

Such an usually lovely dining room good log fire and beautiful view out over the gardens. Add to this the very friendly welcome and brilliant service (not over nearing) to the delicious food with an excellent choice on the menu to pick from and...a wine list to match and you have everything you need for a memorable meal out we certainly did. would recommend anyone who likes their food to this place.
