Our hotel is near the Gare de Cornavin (Geneva's main train station), and La Matze is in a string of restaurants just off the public square outside the railway station. There was quite a selection of restaurants - Lebanese, Mexican, Italian, Chinese ... but we liked the look of - and the menu of - this restaurant.My wife and I had the cheese and mushroom, in the pot kept hot at your table with a little burner, supplied with a basket of broken bread and long forks. It was tasty and filling - a good portion for 2. We washed it down with lashings of Aperol Spritz.
Que dire de ce restaurant. Le personnel ? Désagréable, qui se permet des remarques désobligeantes et n'a rien compris à la notion de clientèle.La cuisine ? Des assiettes banales, avec une mention spéciale pour le cabillaud servi congelé (!!!), avec remarque très délicate de la serveuse: "les autres clients l'apprécient comme ça". Alors à part s'ils ont une clientèle de manchots ou d'otaries, je ne vois pas trop qui accepterait une assiette de la sorte.
Very nice and friendly staff. Get us a table quickly and took without delay order despite busy. They spoke well English and clear menu. The food was fast and the pizzas and pasta were all great. The price was also competitive. The French fries hit Mcdonalds / Burger King's hands down as they were cut thin, very crispy. On our request we brought Heinz-Ketchup and a huge bowl of Parmesan cheese without foot. Definitely recommend.
Le vin de mauvaise qualité est servi chaud; les pâtes sont totalement dépourvues de goût ! Le fromage n'a rien a voir avec du parmesan ! Bref c'est lamentable ... C'est le restau à touristes de passage (qui n'y reviendront jamais alors pourquoi faire de la qualité ?) qui profite d'une bonne situation près de la gare ... a éviter à tout prix !

We visited for dinner as staff of our hotel recommended. The location is easy to find and very near from the station. This restaurant looks most popular one since it was the most crowded one among all on the road. Number of staff were fewer but friendly and nice, food are average or higher.
After a small stroll through the streets I found the La Matze restaurant. It's outside seating attracted me on that lovely summer night for a quick dinner.Had myself a beer and a risotto with fresh mushrooms. It was a good meal and not very expensive for Geneva prices.
The service was very dry and the plate ordered is not as what it means plus they did not bring the salad that comes with the plate and when noticed they said the kitchen was closed. We insisted as we did not like the reply...so they brought basic salad

Lovely side street to sit out on and eat pizza with a glass of local wine. The fondue was popular too. Good value for money in a city where nothing's cheap.
