La Safraniere offers local specialities with a Mediterranean twist the chef knows all about flavours. A beef carpaccio included crushed olives as well as slivers of a local sheep's cheese. Trout is a speciality, both fresh and smoked. Guinea fowl (probably the best I've ever tasted) came with a compote of fennel, artichoke hearts and dried tomatoes which was to die for, as was the potato puree liberally laced with olive oil. A creme brulee with a hint of lavender came with a strawberry sorbet that was bursting with flavour. Service was professional and not rushed. We had lunch at the post office's mother house and were delighted so we registered it on the way back and reserved for the safraniere since the post is not open in the evening. The management is the same and the cook also but the, it was possible to be on holiday in any case frozen fish and too cooked limit maché paper and my slice of pork without great flavor; On the other hand beautiful place, beautiful terrace, beautiful dining room, beautiful park and staff always as pleasant large room, a little dated question decor but enjoying a terrace full foot, when even euros breakfast, a little expensive for end otter not many choices admissions, dishes and desserts for euros
Dans un petit village medievale un superbe restaurant vous délecte les papilles avec ses plats recherchés. Tout est fait à la commande, je ne comprenais pas lorsque à la réservation ils m'ont dit d'arriver au plus tard à 12h30. C'est normal puisque tout est cusiné à l'instant, pour préparer un bon risotto comme entrée il faut son temps. Une excellente cusine, des saveurs recherchés avec des belles associations dans une salle magnifique, un service impeccable. Merci vraiment à l'équipe, nous avons passé un très bon moment.
A really excellent restaurant and the best one you can find. If you want to taste very fine cuisine from south west of france, do not hesitate a second. Always a pleasure to come there. The restaurant is a beautiful old house of Lozere in a calm and remote area close to mende. The Chef is very kind and he is always helpful for choosing dishes or even to amend one if you need (allergy, etc). Do mot hesitate to go there, you will love it !

Going to La Safraniere has become our ritual when we visit Mende, which we do yearly. The restaurant is quaint, only 5 or 6 tables. The menu changes often enough that you are never bored and the dishes are prepared to perfection with fresh, local products. the wine list is impressive without being frightening. It is a husband and wife business run with care and attention. Make a reservation, it is best, you will not regret it.
La Safraniere is simply one of the best places that we visit anywhere. To find such high quality in such a remote part of France is fortunate indeed. There are only six tables but that ensures the food is outstanding and imaginative. Service is discreet and professional, the setting gorgeous. This is a restaurant for a real treat and we can't wait to return once more.
We have visited La Safraniere three times now. Every time we have been impressed with the food which is divine. There is enough choice but not too much. You know instantly which dishes have your name on them. The involvement of the owner who takes your order is just right informative and helpful but discreet. The choice of wines plus advice is excellent.
I went there without a reservation at 14pm and they did not want to seve me although they had 60 percent of empty tables
