"Rude, slow, nasty waitress. Waited forever. Had one glass of wine and left. We talked to the German couple next to us and they agreed. It was almost comical how rude she was. Wine was good, though."

Lagler's is worth the walk up from town. It is a lovely, casual little wine bar with an outdoor terrace with views of the Wachau Valley. My husband found this online before we left, and drew up a map so we could find it. From town, walk west away from the river until you reach the WW1 & 2 memorial (and reflect for a moment on the the repetition of the family names on the memorial). From there, head up into the cobblestoned little "downtown" with the church and keep going up to the left, then to the right, and up through and past the gate....when you get to the "t", turn left and voila! Eurohike (reviewed elsewhere) gave us a voucher for a wine-tasting at this delightful "weingut" (vineyard and winery), which we might not have found otherwise. A young woman on the staff served us tastes (three or four good sips, enough to savor, not enough to inebriate!) of three distinctive Lagler wines, with a jug of spring water and some bread and cheese to clear the palate, along with intelligent and informative descriptions of the differences among the three and enough time to enjoy the learning. The place is relaxed, friendly and cheerful, with wine and other local delicacies including the famous local apricot liqueurs and preserves for sale. It seemed that lots of Austrians come ther...

Absolut empfehlenswert!

We stopped here with our guide for lunch. We were blessed with a beautiful fall day and sat outside with great views. We were served an excellent Gruner Vetliner and good Reisling with the best fresh breads I've ever tasted and an excellent variety of meats and local delicacies. Highly recommended.
