I dined here on many of my fieldwork visits to Concarneau while writing my book: Researching Literary Tourism. After a visit to L'Amiral, 1 Avenue Pierre Gueguin, Concarneau, France with Paul, we decided to use his photograph of L'Amiral on the front cover of the book. The picture is taken from over on the ramparts of the Ville-Close. We were trying to cover the whole scene from the opening of Simenon's novel, The Yellow Dog, Le Chien jaune. Try the oyster as a starter, and, if they still offer this, the Simenon menu. If you are reading the detective novel whilst you are in this fishing and seaside town do let me know and share your thoughts... you can find me as staff on University of Plymo...

Very lovely staff and felt bad for not leaving a tip, but couldn't pay any extra for what we had been served for lunch. A croque monsieur, with old dry bread and barely anything inside it, and then for the other dish; a literal tin of sardines heated up... Still in the tin! with some plain boiled potato and some green garnish for €13. So many other options around i regret trying this one

If you would like a warm a tin of sardines (still in the tin) with a few leaves and boiled potatoes, this is the place for you. If you want fresh fish, try elsewhere.

The food is indeed high quality and very delicious. Our only concern was the impatient jumpy service, somehow not correlating to everything else.
