Our son who lives in Bern suggested that we try Landgasthof Hirschen for a Sunday Lunch as he had heard good reports about the food. We were not disappointed the food and service was excellent and the host Klaus speaks very good english. Landgasthof Hirschen specialises in top quality aged steak Klaus suggested that we share 3 different steaks to compare the different tastes. A wonderful meal and experience the house red wine was delicious and complimented the steak so well we had a second bottle! Our grandson (3.5 years) also enjoyed sharing our steaks a great sunday family meal in a lovely setting. This a great little restaurant with a beautiful garden and quality food. We've been here several times and have taken family and friends on different occasions. They are open almost every day of the year, which is great considering a lot of places close for holidays in summer and fall. Start with the Kir aperitif these guys do a great one that I could drink all night. Do consider the wines they recommend, as often they are reasonably priced and go well with the meal. Nice atmosphere and good service. We, a group of 4 persons, started our meal with a mixed salad and then had three different cuts of their dry-aged beef as recommended accompanied by potatoes and beans. Unfortunately, the steaks were not so tender as we were expecting and did not give us the mouth melting experience we had been looking forward to. Also, one of the steaks had probably been left too long on the grill and tasted burned. Side dishes and salad not worth mentioning. Price on the high side. It took way too long for the entire meal to be served.
the food is very good and the way it is prepared is good too. The chef is a very nice person and it is clear that he knows what to do. Plenty of choices, of course not so much for vegetarian people even though there are good choices of local cheese. Booking in advance and organize a way to go back home safely as this kind of cuisine requires some good wine and after one is not allowed to drive.
