This restaurant opened in January 2013 and is still trying to get known. We were four couples traveling on two chartered canal boats and had planned to stop in Le Lion d'Angers because there is a very good marché there on Friday mornings. Based on all the info we had, we thought we would have to settle for pizza the previous evening when I happened to see a reference to this restaurant in a newspaper article about its opening via an internet search. Not knowing much about it, we decided anyway to make a reservation. It was a rainy day in late May, and we ended up being the only customers. The chef is French and had worked for several years in Moscow (yes, Russia) where he met his wife. They ar...

Having walked and driven past several times during our recent holiday we met a German tourist in a nearby town who recommended this restaurant to us.We booked a table and are so glad that we did. This is a superb restaurant serving very traditional French food. Not a pizza in sight, who was so refreshing! We were a group of 4 and all chose the slightly more expensive set meal. The streaks were amazing!Yes it's more expensive than other restaurants, but the quality of the food and the unobtrusive service is worth paying for.You really need to understand French to decipher the menu and avoid getting something that you may not find enjoyable, for instance one if the mains is eel.All in all a great...

This restaurant doesn't look obviously great from the outside. You may even confuse it for one of the troquets found in quantity in any French village. But don't let the appearances mislead you, this is a true gastronomic restaurant. The menu is very nice, offering traditional dishes with a slight twist here and there, and the execution is great. The service is perfect, attentive, friendly, but not invasive. And the value is just outstanding. We only came once, so far, but for sure we will return, and we will bring friends and family to this place. It is that good for the price!

we ate for six consecutive nights in l'authentique, each meal was a tribute to the chef's skill and his real feeling for his ingredients. highlights? the freshwater prawns, the superbly cooked american steak, and best of all, perfectly cooked and presented duck. the food was light, flavourful, and beautifully presented. we put the wine choice in the chef's hands, and drank exceeding well. It's worth the trip to Lion just to dine at this restaurant, but be warned, it is small, book ahead.
