"A limited choice both of food and drink but what there is is good. Starters and mains above average but deserts very average. Service good, and the price reasonable. Consider a starter and main from the a la carte rather than the menu des pelerins."

We came here on our third night in Auvillar, and were delighted to read good reviews! We were hungry, and walked over to Bacchus. The door was locked, but when we rang the doorbell the daughter opened the door. There was no room for 8pp in the terras (something with impossible seating) There was nobody else in the restaurant, and during our diner, they declined 6 more people to enter. As it seemed - with us 8 (4 kids, 4 adults) Bacchus was fully booked? The food was nice. Without fringes, fancy plates or cuttlery (i think the same fabric for the curtains was also used as tablecloth..) No fancy stuff, Just honest, good, freshly home-made food. Don't think the starter (beetroot gazpacho) is a...

We were just looking for a nice place to eat without going to the high end restaurants in the area. The Bacchus was just the restaurant we were looking for! Clarisse was at the door to welcome us and showed us our table. Although the interior of the Bacchus is not as fancy as upscale restaurants, it was well arranged and reminded us of a nice family restaurant. We only chose one plate and it was a large magret de canard. It was delicious! The price was only 20 euros. My wife had a magret with apricots and honey. Also very good! And the price was 27 euros. The Bordeaux red wine was ok but not all that good. Just one negative remark about how my magret was served.. it had a large cover of alum...

We were desperate that night as other restaurants were either closed or full. And it was a nice surprise in a modest way. Clarisse in charge of service was efficient though a tad unsmiling (I think this is probably unusual). The garden environment was very pleasant. But I chose the cassoulet which was foolish as it usually disappoints and this was no exception. But the other dishes were ok (we were a large party) if unimaginative and the price quite acceptable.

We were the only 3 people for lunch now I know why it was freezing cold and found the welcome about the same, we had the menu that had nice picture of a roast chicken the soup was good, but a small reheated chicken turned up and had that taste of reheated food, the desert was no better. We went on the views we read on Tripadvisor and whoever wrote the reviews should not be allowed to write another review. AViOD
