We were vey hungry and needed someplace to eat. We were able to find a parking place near the Auberge de Soleil d'Or, and decided to eat at Le Bistrot. It was not inviting upon entering, and it was entirely full of tourists, many families with children. The restaurant has hard surfaces, so with the children exclaiming, chairs scraping the floor, normal conversations, etc. it was a pretty noisy. We didn't expect much. Because so many customers were, like us, tourists, even ordering took a long time for many large groups, and people didn't understand their bills, which took more time, or their charge cards didn't go through it was a long wait for our lunch. When our lunch arrived, we were deli...

Our morning had taken us to a number of picturesque villages, but as lunch approached none could accommodate us--they were full. Arriving back in Montignac, we saw the Bistrot and decided to try it. We were welcomed without problem and quickly made our choices--I took the menu of feuillette de boudin noir, steak-frites and pineapple napoleon, while my husband had an omelette of crepes, knowing we would share. The boudin noir was excellent with apples and potato slices forming the layers, and a lovely salad. The steak-frites was just what one wanted--rare steak and crispy frites--and the omelette was heavenly. We shared all and agreed the dessert was one of the best of the trip.

I had walk by one day decided I liked the look of Le Bistrot would give it a try. It just so happened that the subsequent day that I tried it, it was rainy and Le Bistrot was very very busy. However, on the whole a relatively positive experience. The staff were exceptionally busy, but did manage to serve everybody. Also noted that service went past 3pm, which is virtually unheard of in France. I didn't fancy the Menu du Jour, however it did seem very good value I noted that those who had chosen it, were served swiftly seemed very happy.
