Now, here we are back, all only a month has passed away and we just couldn't stay away* we fell in love with this charming place and had to return to him 's beauty and peaceful rest. This time we experienced a dusting of light rain, a warm sunshine and the morning pig. the river had flowed over the week before, so it was like hearing the glowing rapids right in front of our house door. johnny and lynn welcomed us again and this time we had to meet their two beautiful horses; they even let us feed a baguette that was the billing. every night we enjoyed a warm fire in the did we had every morning. this time we worked around the nearby town le beny bocage and enjoyed what the landscape had to o...

My wife and I have been eating at Chapeau Rouge for over twenty years as our holiday home in Normandy is only a few kilometers away. If anything the cooking has improved over those years and the attention to detail is always spot on. Our most recent meal was in March when we both opted for the a la carte menu as we often don’t want a dessert anyway which comes with the prix fixe menus. My wife went for the smoked ham while I chose the escargots and for a main course the delicious pavé de boeuf, a succulent, tender cut of beef served in a rich jus with potato pancakes. With an apéritive each and a half bottle of Brouilly it came out at €60 service included. (about £45). The welcome is always...

During our trip from Normandie to Bretagne we find this place looking in tripadvisor. It was really a surprise: the Old house is fantastic, full of hystory, the owners are taking care of the kitchen and very friendly with the patience to explain everything, suggesting tipical food of this region. The apple cidre is fantastic, and at the end of the lunch we had Calvados. A very good quality of the fresh food, with a glass of wine. This is what we expect from la France.

4 of us had lunch on 31 December. the experience was terrible. the crêpes were hardly to eat: clearly not homemade, but processed, tasteless foods that were just warmed up in a microshaft. it took three applications to have water for our two children. who were really thirsty. our younger (age 7) took some time to order his meal so that the waitress went and did not come back 10 long minutes ago. no smile or any kind of inviting word. really a shame. The red hat is now our first port on call on the road from Cherbourg to wherever in France. It is good enough to make us want to include it even though it may take us many miles out of our way. The service is quiet and unassuming but attentive - no dramas or divas but the food is excellent French deliciousness. Well worth the detour.

we had last eaten here in 2010 and were impressed by the food. to find another one again, we decided to visit another. same nice welcome. same people run it. the same beautiful ambiente and exactly the same menu as last time. I guess if it's not broken, it's not repairing. will be coming back. eight years?

One of the most reliable, affordable places that I've ever had the pleasure to dine in: ideal for family and friends, all of whom say it is excellent. Slightly limited menu but all done so well: have returned many times

Cozy place with good food set in a typically French setting. The staff explain the menu in English if desired. The guinea fowl was excellent in its cider sauce and the assiette de charcuterie was delightful. Book a table now

Fantastic service, great food, reasonably priced wines. We had beef and snails and liver to die for. A wonderful country restaurant that can't be beat. One of our best meals in France.
