"This is a simple local restaurant with a few courses that just does what it does very well. A few choices steak, fish, duck with some chips, salad, veg. My confit was superb, and comments on the gambas were also good. The service is good and prompt but don't expect much English. Portions and prices are really good."

This is our second visit to this restaurant, the first being a fantastic happy experience. However on this occasion the service was at best average at worst poor, with limited portions of food being placed before us without a word in French or English. Acute lack of attention by the waitresses. The food was mediocre but served in a timely manner mainly because the restaurant was not full. And overall it was not a good value lunch especially with other very good eating places nearby. This was a fantastic venue, except to say the chef was happy but only paid attention to French diners. Sad to write such a poor review.

Bar Resto Le Chiquito is a gem of a restaurant where the quality of food, attentive service and value for money are all excellent. The chef takes care over the presentation of the food even for a menu du jour. Generous portions for all courses and there was no skimping with the wine. We left this restaurant feeling full but not at all uncomfortable. Typical French home cooking and courteous service. A must to visit. Very easy to find as it is opposite the food market hall. At busy times a reservation will be necessary.

If you get to spend some time in the summer resort Royan, don 't miss to reserve a table at le Chiquito. The food is great. The Chef makes a good family French traditional cuisine. All products are fresh (market of Royan across the street). The Chef comes from Bayonne where he runned a famous place for years before he decided to quit the Pays Basque and drop his suitcases in Charente Maritime. Don 't miss the famous Entrecôte and the most delicious Cocolait !!! Cheers François

Don't hesitate to try this place. It's a little gem. Generous servings, tasty, fresh food from the local market which is literally just across the road. A three course meal will set you back under 20 Euros including a pitcher of 1/2 liter wine. We were lucky to get a table without having reserved a table. Next time we shall book in advance.
