When you check out a town and find that two of the top three restaurants are either créperies or pizza/pasta places you know that you are in a 'foodie ' desert. The best Coutances restaurants are probably out of town. No one knows why. It is quite a large town but perhaps the locals don 't go out very much or value quantity on the plate rather than quality. Le Ratelier comes in at No.3 in Coutances and, if you like galettes and crépes, we do from time to time, especially after we have been to the pictures (cinema in old speak) , it deserves its ranking. Extensive galettes/ crépes menu; perfectly cooked;, warm welcome;, excellent value for money your kids will love it.. It only has room for a...

We visited Le Ratelier on a cool winter 's afternoon and were lucky to get the last table for 2 at around 1230. The restaurant was very busy, with a mix of couples, families with children and 'ladies who lunch '. The menu has a wide range of Gallettes and I chose the 'Ratelier Special ', my wife chose the equivalent 'sans oeuf ' and we had a 50cl pichet of Côtes du Rhone. I have to say that my gallette was the crispiest and nicest I 've ever had. My wife was equally impressed in fact we both had to have a desert also excellent! We will be going here again!

They only serve galettes or crepes but if you have the appetite go for a savoury galette and a sweet crepe. Absolutely scrumptious. Really crispy galette and so tasty, and washed down with a fermier cidre. It is not a town you would necessarily stop in, we were ready for some lunch and thought we would see what was on offer. One of those great finds you wish happened more often

Once again the existing reviews helped us to find this hidden gem. Plain and simple with delicious galettes and crepes made to order. Small and friendly and not expensive. Close to the cathedral and easy to find. Galettes are savoury crepes made with buckwheat flour and they are light and tasty. Particularly enjoyed my one of ham and potatoes. Good place.
