Le Relais Princesse Marie Leczinska, located in a tiny town in the Alsace region of France, is worth seeking out not only for the cooking by Chef Okamoto but also to watch a single woman, Madame Okamoto, managed a 20 cover restaurant alone with great charm and efficiency. She puts to shame restaurants with wait staffs who can't manage to refill a wine glass or deliver a dish with elan.Despite the surname of the Chef the cuisine is definitely a reflection of the Alsace region. In full disclosure, I am not a blogger nor critic, just a traveller who has been lucky to dine at great restaurants in my lifetime.I would first point out this restaurant is far from Japanese, but instead a "modern" French one that is similar in style and sophistication to the "California Cuisine" in my home town in San Francisco like Alice Water's Chez Panisse in Berkeley. Well this is the first English review....we went here on a Monday night because everywhere else was closed. It is definitely in the fine dining category and for us English definitely very expensive. Considering the high aspirations it has, the wine was not pre chilled and given the price it really should have been, the water served with no ice straight from the tap, and the vegetables badly over cooked. On the plus side there is no doubt that this is inventive cuisine ( small portions) which would suit some. The service was painfully slow and the atmosphere very hushed....there were only six of us there. I knew instantly this was not the sort of place I like to go when on holiday but do reco...

Nice decorated restaurant a exceptional kitchen... Our degustation menu was perfect. I recommend to try it when you visit this region. Dont ask the local people - just go to the restaurant and try to taste any meal there....
