This restaurant is a good choice for watching the sunset over the Bay of Arcachon. It's also convenient and has nice white tablecloths. Unfortunately the food seldom lives up to the location or the nice decor and this assessment is based on numerous meals over many years. I felt the kitchen was in fairly lackluster form this season (2019) mediocre (and cold) fish soup, overpriced shellfish, mediocre lotte (monkfish) and fatty turbot. In high season the service is predictably frantic; at other times it can be charming. You get much better value next door at le Cap, but then you don't get the white tablecloths either (but the view is essentially the same).

Lovely setting, great service food perfectly cooked, but we ordered Ris de Veau aux Truffle and we were served two bits of breaded deep- fried Ris de Veau, three strips veal steak and a square inch of veal liver and what was supposed to be truffle grated was tasteless and had the texture of sawdust. I suspect canned sauce perigord and past the date Chinese truffle. Desserts are tourists desserts , the chef kind enough to serve us, a plate of sliced fruit instead profiteroles or Tismiso. We chose the restaurant for Ris de Veau sux truffles Sweet breads with truffle Terribly disappointed.

We shared tempura shrimps with my husband who then had the scallops dish while I had the sole meunière. Though very fresh and of a decent size, it was cooked with skin on...this does not bring the true taste of the filet meunière out since I had to do away with the skin that had been passed in flour and then cooked in butter...I ended up with filets of sole without butter to which I had to add salt and pepper...I have had much better in restaurants in Brussels for the same price. Our friends chose the daily menu which seemed alright.

Seriously top notch grub. Beautiful scenic location overlooking the Arcachon Basin and is a picture perfect setting. Menu is expensive but the main dishes are really top quality and delicious. Fully recommend the Carré Agneau.
