It is in this church that Charles de Foucauld converts. He had met Abbé Huvelin, vicar of the parish, several times at his aunt’s house, and had discussed a lot with him. On that day Charles entered the church to talk again. The Abbot refuses, and invites him to confess, and then gives him communion. This was the decisive moment of conversion. The confessional is still there, preciously preserved. Letters and personal objects were deposited by the family of Charles de Foucauld. A window contains the model of the fortin where Charles de Foucauld was murdered. A very beautiful bust in terracotta welcomes the visitor. The religious aspect doesn't matter to me, but I still like the dantec architecture of this kind of place. The Church of Saint Augustine is a magnificent testimony of the past and the techniques used to build imposing buildings. Work would not hurt him, but the visit remains impressive, especially when you pass under the dome perched several tens of metres.
Very beautiful church. Beautiful even... good let's be honest it's dirty as can be the great churches of the big cities but architecturally speaking it's worth the detour. Beautiful stained glass windows, an art deco side in the luminaires and columns... really if you have 1/2 hour go.
