We have wanted to see how the new ownership at Le Sechoir has done for some time. We waited a bit to let them settle in, but now I'm wondering why we bothered. The basic formula is a set menu for 14 Euros, including coffee and wine, which is a great bargain in the Dordogne. You enter in to the small place, around 10 tables. First course is the "buffet au volonte", where you serve yourself, salad bar style. Several options, ranging from lettuce leaves, to various tinned fish (sardines, trout, etc) to a mayonnaise bean salad that we felt was from a jar, to pasta salad. This restaurant was recommended by several people staying in Constant. It was very busy and booking was necessary to guarantee a table mid week at lunchtime.Only option is the menu de jour, 14 euros for cold buffet starter, plate de journey (dogfish on the day we visited) a good selection of deserts, aperatif, wine and coffee.All in all excellent value, our main disappointment was the frozen chips to accompany the fish. Apparently they had run out of fresh potatoes (odd given that everybody had booked).Would we return? Yes as I think we were unlucky and would give the place another chance.
Great fixed price lunch when it's open (opening times can be vague). About 15 Euro for three courses and wine. Fast service, the locals eat here and wow, probably the best piece of skate I've ever eaten. Buffet starter has a great variety and the prunes in Armagnac pudding is not to be missed. Designate a driver!
After a long walk we end up here for lunch. There is a set meal and on the day we went there was an unlimited buffet followed by sausages and then dessert. This came with a jug of house wine and then coffee. They are open lunchtime and evening and are very good value indeed
