I honestly did not know what to expect from a renowned 2-Michelin star French restaurant, but my divine experience from start to finish made me understood why they deserved 2 stars. How did we get there? We were referred of course! Easy emailing in English, an acceptance/confirmation and a request for contact phone number (note to Australians travelling in France - Telstra is not hassle free when it comes to international roaming).So as we entered the compact manicured japonais gardens, we looked up to see that there was an Australian flag quietly mounted along with the french and another - we were being greeted. We came for diner as a group of people including a newborn. The staff was very friendly and attentive, asking if we had anything to warm for the baby without us even asking for it. They even put national flags at the entrance for...the guests that were coming from different countries (SWISS one for us). Dinner here was a wonderful experience in every way. The fixed-price menus and the à la carte were most interesting and 'different', the portions were, unusually for a Michelin-starred restaurant, 'proper', and ALL the dishes, including the amazing amuse-bouches, bread and mignardises, were totally delicious. No question the food in this restaurant is top quality with few concessions to modernity. However, given their two-star Michelin rating, I was surprised by the service lapses. For instance, when we asked for a glass of champagne on arriving, we were told that it was on the "chariot", which would arrive soon. But by the time the "chariot" arrived (perhaps 10 minutes), we had rather lost our thirst for an aperitif. It was sometimes hard to get wine glasses refilled and it was not the kind of place where one could stand up and serve oneself. When visiting Les Cedres I quickly understand this is not only food, this is a passion, this is proud, the Chef tells you a story from the kitchen thru the serving , takes you at a journey thru different dishes, starters, main, deserts and the small neutralizers between before under and after. Our story this day was about the “black truffle” the truffle was present, I think inn almost all dishes inn one or another way used with a perfect balance and perfection. Those people still searching for the perfect story must make a visit. All the ladies and the gentlemen at Les Cedres that make this happened, you can be proud! a beautiful place in the heart of the great appellation of the northern Rhone Valley. a room and a beautiful garden, a service of the most brilliant and a superb wine list. you can savor a succulent sea spider, a sublime Barbet and octopus mullet,...the lobster in two ways is to be recommended, as well as the pigeon, the cheeses and desert are great. to do, unavoidable!
I went to Les Cedres invited by a client and I must say that this was probably the best restaurant I have been to. The interior, service, atmosphere and not forgetting the food was exquisite. A must to visit if your in the area.
